I'm more than a bit uncomfortable that Auntie is shifting its 10 o'clock news by 15 minutes for a slightly longer than usual #celebrityTraitors.

I get frustrated with list articles like this where the first entry contains two howlers.
David Tenant was in 2004's Blackpool on BBC One, predating Casanova, and many, many BBC dramas received more than the 'nearly a million viewers'. A record for BBC Three perhaps, but not Auntie as a whole.
Young Casanova on Casanova (2005)
Tennant first waltzed on to our TV screens as the cheeky young Giacomo Casanova in Russell T Davies's adaptation of the Venetian's dirty diary. His vivacious body language and wilybgrin brought Casanova to life as a man whose flirtatious tendencies hey him into all sorts of trouble - until he falls in Lobe with the mysterious Henriette and attempts to assimilate into High Society.
The short series proved a surprise hit with nearly a million viewers - a record at the time for a drama commissioned by the BBC. Crucially, Tennant's performance also won over Davies himself, who was so impressed that he cast Tennant in a role that would come to define his career.
Available to stream on AMAZON Prime Video.

Never ceases to amuse me that it was l.s.d. - all latin IIRC. Was going to write pennies, but was worried about running out of characters. Thought writing 12d would add to the confusion about a confusing (to modern eyes) system!

Happy ninth anniversary to this little gem @apiln.bsky.social
A press cutting from a newspaper headed: Crane disruption.
The story reads: An enormous crane that will lift a room full of plants into a 14 storey building will close town centre roads in October. Station Road and Garrard Street will be shut and Friar Street and Blagrave Street reversed between 5am October 15 and 5am October 17. The temporary measures will allow contractors working on the Thames Tower to install a 500 tonne crane that will put a prefabricated plant room onto the roof of the building.

But ... 21 shillings made a guinea. And then it all starts getting confusing!

IIRC, Base 12. Which is why there are 240 pennies to the pound.
It's one of those things that would make sense if used regularly... if I understand it correctly a shilling was 12p, and 20 shillings made a pound.

With Strictly, does any contestant ever worry that the judge will be Ant and Dec, rather than Anton Du Beke?

I adore it. Every moment. Not long enough for me ... i wanted another episode to tie up the loose ends

IIRC, Southern used to show it around 9.30am, and I have vivid memories of Nancy laying it on with a trowel.

Beware! Virgin is changing its contracts to be two years, and upping its already extortionate in-contract price rises to £4. So the price you pay at end of contact will be £8 more.
If you live in an area with ultrafast broadband alternatives, they mau be cheaper. @MartinSLewis
A screengrab of Virgin's website showing the change to 24 month contracts and at least £4 a year price rises. So a package that is £84.99 a month will rise to £96 at its end.

I think its the old ITV setup where you got the regional Ident before a show (for me Thames jingle = Rainbow).
We were off the Dover Transmitter, and I was very jealous of some school friends who got Southern, Thames and Anglia due to where they lived.

Peeking out of the window of train and a housing development has installed a random giraffe and a spaceman to advertise its wares.
A balcony of a housing development with a giraffe and a spaceman on view.
There are wires from the electric trains and there is a staircase on the wall of the development.
On the left is a tree.

The idea is both unworkable and lovely. But a free 16 or 24 page comic weekly during term time? Funnies, high adventure, fantasy and text adventures?
I'm in.

Years ago I had an idea of getting sponsors to pay for free comics for schools - each child could have a free comic, with two or three different titles per age band: nursery, junior and older.
Mix of updated reprints from DCT and Rebellion. Different titles to create loyalty- WhizzKids and Chipites

Dont get me wrong, there is a lot I would change if I was Controller. I don't think there is a single BBC show I'm making a beeline for right now, Nothing appeals to me and I do think telly suits the 30-minute format better than drawn-out nonsense.

IMHO, Auntie needs to do both, as per educated, entertain and inform. It's a tightrope, but a Beeb that makes Mrs Brown's Boys and Masterchef should also be one that makes modern versions of Antenna, Monitor, The Lively Arts, and Horizon.
