I missed out on nabbing this John Watkiss/Steve Mitchell Batman page (No tears. I own a better one, TBH). More evidence that comics let an artist who could have been a Batman legend get away.

We are supremely lucky and happy to work with our friends at @litvolunteerswinchesterarea Today we gifted them the comically large check (and a real one) for $11,560 from this past years #fcfcoversliteracy! Lets try to beat it next year!

Big talent. Gone far too soon.
RIP Louis Small, Jr. Wow this one makes me sad, he was such a nice guy. His most memorable work to me was probably his Vampirella one.

Various commissions from yesterday's GI Joe convention in Des Moines. Some familiar faces, but mostly a new audience for my work. Fun times with Ron Wagner. Plus, I randomly ran into my brother at an EMT convention on another level of the facility.

I did manage to snag this gorgeous Koi Pham Teen Titans penciled page. I thumbnailed it for DC way back when. I guess I prefer to see my storytelling handled by a better artist!

I greet you with the news that I'll be attending CODENAME IOWA, a GI Joe convention in Des Moines this weekend. Not a Comicon per se, but it has comic makers like me, Larry Hama, and Ron Wagner as guests. Admission is free as heck!

A Kirby-tier creative designer and franchise midwife. And like Kirby, he should have been able to retire as a multimillionaire.
Today is the birthday of artist Dave Cockrum (Nov. 11, 1943-Nov. 26, 2006). Creator or cocreator of Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Thunderbird, Wildfire, Mystique, the Starjammers, the Imperial Guard, Magik, & much more!

Sometimes you draw for 10 hours and get 2 pages, and sometimes you get 2 panels.

My comics career and my marriage to a union woman both being 40 years long is not a coincidence.
Many full time creatives have “invisible safety nets” like bread-winning partners, trust funds, external support, etc. No shame on anyone, but it creates a false vision of success. The cost of going to cons alone on top of hoping to eat as a freelancer are untenable, IMO.
When people hear that I'm returning to part time work they often ask "are things not going well with your art?"

The problem really is things are going well, but the world is so unstable that I long for some consistency and income that I don't have to pay quarterly taxes on
