Honestly I think a lot of people want to help but are unsure of how. Giving them concrete local resources and someone else running point and coordinating helps a lot! And this way I’m not asking pantry volunteers to do more so it helps everyone
I reached out to our school districts and local pantries to identify needs then I started posted to my own FB network and in local parent groups
If anyone wants to contribute, this is my Venmo. (Phone is 4164). You can also contribute to local pantries by visiting Feeding America and putting in your zip code to find pantries near you! Fck T*ump, Fck ICE, help kids.
My next move is supporting a local recently-unhoused family who found housing in a trailer on a family member’s property but the trailer needs much needed roof repairs before winter. I’m so thrilled to turn the rage I’ve been feeling into action. In sucky times, we can be the helpers.
We’re purchasing $1,000 worth of food for the backpacks then building Thanksgiving, Cleaning, and Hygiene kits…as well as donating $500 to a local charity that works to fill in the gaps with gift cards, fuel assistance, etc.
I started a local fundraiser on Wednesday to help food insecure kids/families in my district. My original goal was $600 to support a weekend backpack meals program. I’m stunned to share that as of today, my little local community raised $2,550 and now we’re supporting 3 diff food programs in town!
Husband hasn’t gone deer hunting in years but decided to this year with the price of beef and everything rising. Day 1 of the season opening today and he filled both doe tags!!! Yesssssss.
Thank you!! I’ve found some good ideas but also trying to be kid-friendly haha
Ideally I’d like to do breakfast, snacks, and 2-3 meals per bag.
If anyone has worked for programs that did these kind of backpack programs before or summer meals programs have ideas of what’s needed most or does the best, please let me know! I’m consolidating ideas and shopping lists now. Shelf-stable for sure.
I reached out to our school district today to talk to someone who works with economically-disadvantaged students. I’m thinking about crowdfunding to put together weekend bags of snacks and shelf-stable meals that they can send home with students in need as SNAP stops (with their ok).
Welcome to Derry, Episode 1. Lets goooo!!!
Husband and I have been enjoying 90s/00s horror movies leading up to Halloween and so far my only take away is goddamn Monica Keena was/is hot. Perfect rack, my god.
Funnily enough I’m way closer to my half sister I met when I was in my 20s than the one I was raised with
Eh my sister kind of sucks, we talk like maybe once a month

As someone who worked with home builders/contractors for 6 years…the older one as long as the roof/bones/etc are sound. Quality of new construction is terrible in comparison!
Yes, thank you. No injuries except to my precious car 😭
Oh yes, thank you. Just annoyed. Airbags didn’t deploy or anything, the deer literally just bounced off the side of my car and continued on its merry way.
How to tell you just paid off your car? For the first time ever actually paying it off and not trading it in for another payment? A DEER HIT ME!! RAN INTO ME ON THE SIDE OUT OF FUCKING NOWHERE!!
