AlTAH for telling a friends boyfriend that he can't have a traditional wife because he's not a traditional man 25F was hanging with some friends and their significant others last week. To make a long story short my friends boyfriend kept talking about how women no longer want to be traditional wives and that's why many of them are single. I responded that in 2025 women don't feel like they need a man in order to provide the lives that they want for themselves. He kept going on about what women used to do and how they were all about taking care of their husbands and household without complaining. I let it go on for a while but I got tired of hearing his rant and told him that he can't have a traditional wife when my friend goes 50/50 on all the bills with him and works more hours than he does. I continued with he isn't a traditional husband and can't provide for his household like he's supposed to so that my friend can stay home and do those "traditional duties." My husband is mad that I tried to pay him back with the same thing I feel he does to me? I (female, married) have been feeling really isolated for a long time. My husband goes out whenever he wants - his friends invite him on spontaneous trips, spa days, events with well-known people, etc. I stay home with our toddler, and I've always supported him going out because I want him to have a life outside the house. IG & Threads: @ask The problem is, when I express that I feel sad that I don't get invited out or don't have the same freedom, he either shuts down, gets annoyed, or makes fun of me. He has said things like "You don't have friends" or laughed at me for feeling sad about it. When I try to talk about my feelings, he flips the argument, makes everything my fault, or stonewalls me for hours. I'll admit: I reached a point where I was tired of feeling trapped, so I did something wrong. A friend I barely get to see made plans, and I decided to go. I lied and made it seem spontaneous because I wanted him to understand what it feels like when he gets invited last minute and I'm left alone to figure things out with our kid. I was wrong to lie, and I know that. I also used a small amount of our investment savings for the outing, which he's extremely upset about. I get why he's mad – that part is 100% on me. But his reaction has been intense. He told me he wanted to leave me, took off his wedding ring, passed it to me, and has been sending me dramatic quotes like: "Broken trust is a scar that never fully fades." "When trust breaks, silence replaces every word." "A lie is all it takes to turn love into doubt." He's been stonewalling me and punishing me emotionally all day. This is something he often does - when he's upset, he shuts down, won't talk, gaslights, or flips the narrative so I end up apologizing He also tends to brag about how every woman he's been with wanted him and how he's "the best man," which makes it hard when I already feel small and unheard. I know lying was wrong. But I also felt pushed into a corner because every time I communicate that I'm lonely or that I want some freedom too, I get dismissed or mocked. Now he says he can never trust me again. I've apologized, taken responsibility, and tried to talk, but he's stonewalling and punishing me emotionally. Am I wrong for lying and going out, or is this reaction disproportionate?
