Tbh this already played out when he was mayor. The guy literally was schtupping his campaign managers wife! And he gave an interview about it! It’s literally a twenty year old story.
I actually don’t think this is true. CA Gov is one of probably the 10 most powerful people in the country and he’s been a public figure for longer than some voters have been alive. I don’t think there’s skeletons in his closet other than the ones we already know about.
I think if Newsom runs a huge amount of dirt will be dumped on him almost immediately, and probably by the Harris camp. It is noticeable that every long for profile of him goes out of its way to remake that he‘s a bit weird in an unspecific way

Los Angeles is almost certainly the worst governed major blue city in the entire country at this point
L.A. Metro, the main transit operator for Los Angeles, just voted to oppose SB 79, a law legalizing the construction of housing near stations. You can't make this stuff up. Legislators should remember this the next time they come to Sacramento begging for more money.

Los Angeles County is at once building more heavy rail than any other city in North America and also comically NIMBY:

“One of its suggestions called for ‘exempting Los Angeles County from SB 79.” Another recommendation suggested “limiting the bill’s applicability to the Bay Area as a pilot project”

The expanded child tax credit under the American Rescue Plan cut child poverty in half and they don’t do an equity analysis or dozens of bespoke targeting. Probably worth considering the implications for this.

It’s a shame how many different “equity” frameworks for public policy design and implementation inevitably means “Make programs slower, more expensive, and serve fewer people” and “give third party consultants money to hold meetings”

Minneapolis residents are painting tunnels onto brick walls and ICE agents are running into them. This is not funny.

Folks, Trump has brought the full force of ICE to bear on a mid-sized city and he can't even stop the demonstrations there. He's not going to be able to cancel the midterm elections by fiat or station his goons outside more than a handful of polling places.

Only if the do it in equal parts French and English
Canada could probably invade the US and make it all the way down to DC before meeting meaningful resistance if they caught the US military off-guard.

It's striking that progressives like Tim Walz and Zohran Mamdani evoke the middle American attitude that, "Yes, we can fix these social problems because we're Americans and it's the right thing to do!" While the "America first" right only emulates failed and failing nation-states elsewhere.

Normalize calling NYC nativists townies
A final thot on NY Nativisim before I go off to get ready to celebrate NYE in a city I apparently dont belong in bc I, like a majority of its residents, had the audacity to be born somewhere else: in any other context, those sorts of ppl would be easily recognized for the townie losers that they are
