Stellar review! As a fan of the book, I appreciated that this film attempted to be a more faithful adaptation than the 1987 version (albeit without the book’s *unfilmable* final scene).
Not the best movie I’ve seen this year, but definitely an enjoyable trip to the theater.

Happy 80th birthday Neil Young. Ten years ago I was in LA and I saw him eating dinner with Daryl Hannah. This was his car parked outside the restaurant. Peeked inside and yes there was a huge Pono player.

This is mid-tier Arnie, and funnily enough the big guy is probably one of the weaker things in it. Apparently he was miffed at the director change, and his heart doesn't seem in it, mostly just going through the motions and delivering the cheesy puns. But even lesser Arnie can be fun.

The Running Man (1987): Arnold Schwarzenegger competes in a deadly game show in this very loose adaptation of the Stephen King book. Wright's remake is the better film, this was flawed at the time and is quite dated now, but there's plenty of entertaining camp, and Richard Dawson steals it.

The Running Man (2025): Glen Powell has to run for his life in Josh Brolin's sadistic gameshow in Edgar Wright's actioner based on the Stephen King book, which is closer than the Arnie version. Takes a while to build up speed, and a little bit uneven script-wise, but this is still Verhoeven-lite fun
