Fear Is The Mind Killer

It's not the heat, it's the stupidity!
Thinking about revisiting cyberpunk... My first few attempts to play it didn't work out but that was a while ago.

Humans consistently fail to understand that the president does not unilaterally control the economy, which can be used as a proxy for humans are consistently dumb.

That said, the president certainly can strongly influence the economy, obviously.
People get mad at me because I talk about how people are unreasonably mad about the economy. “Trump’s economy isn’t very good!” they say.

Maybe not, but Americans appear to believe it’s literally THE WORST ECONOMY IN LIVING MEMORY. That’s straightforwardly deranged.
I’m sorry but you just cannot explain this. You can’t. It can’t be done. It defies comprehension.

Amazon is generally a very bad shopping experience and I can't wait for Walmart to do better so I can just switch to Walmart+ and not have to deal with this

(Not an ad, actually mad)

I don't think about it this way often, but I walk through the halls of what you could reasonably consider an actual wonder of the world on a weekly basis, and maybe one of the most impressive in objective terms

I just work here

All the new models seem really good.

I expect more Gemma models soon, and they'll probably be good.

Maybe a Qwen release?

So far, things are improving well.

Excited to mess with functiongemma.

Never heard of Exo, but sounds promising
I'm testing 1.5 TB of VRAM on a cluster of Mac Studios, courtesy of RDMA support in macOS 26.2, and Exo Labs' new version of Exo (released under the OSS Apache 2.0 license today).

I've been saying - but it's not middle class per se, it's just your average citizen has bad ideas.
The right would have you think tbe poor and immigrants are villains. The left, billionaires. What if the actual problem is normal middle class people want bad things
It would be nice if classic villains were why progress is slow but the story rarely works out so nicely. Billionaires aren’t why homes are expensive, or why we can’t build a subway, or why no one wants solar panels built near them

It's kind of amazing how filthy and bad baton rouge's airport is all things considered, but it is literally right next to a prison and bail bonds business. The airport in Mobile and Gulfport are both far better than this capital city's.

Also, maybe the reason that blade runner's aesthetic is so good to me is that at night, driving in from New Orleans east into the city, looks like a cyber dystopia. Dirty worn out surroundings, surrounded by industrial buildings with flashing red antenna towers and a dimly lit city in the background

One thing about the misery that is southern heat and humidity is that there *is* a level of relief and catharsis that occurs when you go into a pleasant indoor place that you don't get when you live somewhere more generally agreeable.

It's really the best the first time, and very style over substance

You have to enjoy the bride's ruthless and deep hatred to get the most out of it. Uma Thurman did a great job.

The verse goes

Midst the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me
And as He died to make men Holy let us die to make men free
Our God goes marching on

And, like, honestly you wanna burn down Richmond all over again when you hear it!
"As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free," goes harder than any Civil War song has any right to go.

To paraphrase Dan Carlin - back in WW2 if you told people Americans are torturing people, they wouldn't accept it - that's what the Nazis do, Americans don't do that.

Even if we kind of always did, the mentality has changed, Americans don't seem to mind, and that's a huge moral loss for us.
They're using the confinement box, one of the most horrific methods of CIA torture in the post-9/11 black sites, against migrants now. This is the direct result of the lack of consequences for the architects of the torture program. Either there will be criminal penalties for this or it will expand.
Torture Techniques from CIA Black Sites Were Used at Alligator Alcatraz
Amnesty International, interviewing migrant detainees, identifies use of the confinement box. There can be no denying it is a torture prison
