She didn’t even say a disparaging word. Why are Black women the casualties of white men’s wars?

Among the things I am thinking abt is how the left fared after Breitbart died, and after Scalia died. And wondering how things will go this time. And now going back to my fiber crafts and gardening. (I finally have some tomatoes.)

Yes. Nell Painter’s bio of Truth is the one to make this argument.

“Oh I will just take a break until this blows over.”

THIS is all there is unless and until people make something different.

If I can be real for a moment, what frightens me most right now is that David Brooks is more upset about Trump-Musk than many, maybe most, liberal pundits and Democratic leaders are.

Not the children out here believing Harriet Tubman wasn’t real. Jesus, help the children.

OK Y’all. 2 yrs ago I uploaded a pdf to Notebook LM, a Google AI that could convert pdfs into notes. Today I learned it has an audio feature where it will generate a “podcast” of two people talking about the article. I am now listening to a “podcast” abt the article I uploaded in 2yrs ago. WILD!

How somebody gonna protect the homeland when they can’t watch their purse at dinner? Also who carries 3 stacks to dinner?! WTF.

Sometimes the proper response to these times is puff puff pass. Y’all have a good one.

I mean what I want is for every person mad about the trip to go in search of 11 minutes of spaced out bliss this week, through whatever vehicle of your choosing. That feels like the proper balance to the foolishness.

Even though I know all the writerly nerdy folks are on these very apps chasing the feeling of the late aughts and early 2010s, some of our performance of social critique has not at all caught up to this decade and it shows.

Part of the thing that is so boring about social critique right now is that folks let the need for righteousness skip them right past the actual joke that says it all. Hyperseriousness is the opposite of the cure for the unseriousness of these times.

A bunch of women rode a hitachi magic wand to space and that is literally the only useful purpose for a hitachi. So I feel like that should be the convo.

For all my lefty colleagues who can’t just let the tired and weary folks who are terrified as we watch democracy be destroyed have a Booker victory lap, read it here: physics.nyu.edu/sokal/brown_...

Form Wendy Brown’s “Resisting Left Melancholy”: “But left melancholy is Benjamin's unambivalent epithet for the revolutionary hack who is…attached more to a particular political analysis or ideal-even to the failure of that ideal-than to seizing possibilities for radical change in the present.”

it is so deeply gratifying that Elon Musk stumbled upon a race that he'd never heard of before in a state he was probably only vaguely familiar with, made it his whole personality for a month, claimed that western civilization was on the line, committed felonies, spent millions, and FUCKING LOST

Really jarring reading this piece at The Guardian abt the ICE Detention Center in Jena Louisiana where Mahmoud Khalil is being held, and thinking abt my genesis as an activist 18 years ago in Jena, when my fellow PhD students and I chaperoned a bus of Emory undergrads to the Jena 6 protests.
‘Detention Alley’: inside the Ice centres in the US south where foreign students and undocumented migrants languish
Foreign nationals caught up in Trump’s immigration dragnet are transported sometimes thousands of miles away to an isolated network of lockups and courts

Plus I’m a first gen Black woman academic from the U.S. South. All my people still live there. There is no where for me to flee to especially without my folk. And some of us tried to talk about how that informed our November choices and some of the folks who can flee weren’t trying to hear it. 🤷🏾‍♀️

To the conversation about “exiled academics” I would just say some of us academics of a darker hue definitely pointed out that a lot of the radical academic set would flee the minute things got bad.

Democrats even *thinking* about joining Republicans to censure Al Green for having the courage to stand up while they sat down do not deserve to be able to generate a single fundraising dollar from a person of moral character ever again.
