It’s honestly performing where I expected it to since it wasn’t pre-greased like Danganronpa in the algorithm, and it is providing good algo testing for the eventual supercut. But still! Can I have 1 million views in exchange for mid please?

Also because it's pretty challenging to keep motivation up for a long term project like the Yakuza Retrospective when you know the only version that has a chance to do well is the final 6 hour supercut that won't be up for a year

It sucks to see a video do poorly even when you know it's gonna do poorly because there's always that little part of your brain that thinks "what if this time?"

NEW VIDEO! Super timely bumper video on my favourite games of 2025. Only one of the games in the thumbnail makes the main list. A lot of talk of living a good life.
I sincerely hope you enjoy hearing my thoughts. If you do, sharing it with others would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Maybe haven't been looking hard enough, but I've seen shockingly few people actually dig into the cinematic influences the series draws from, which Bopper handily does here. Excellent watch as always.

Per point 3: YK3 released today. Any evaluation of the game’s quality is definitionally going to be bad, conclusory, reactionary, or just plain plagiarized from reviewers. The weakest possible approach to criticism is to criticize a game you haven’t played

Per 1 and 2: it was addressed in my third post; I think these are serious problems, but I do consider them separate from an evaluation of K3. Scummy industry behavior is always a concern, but it’s difficult to apply it to individual works as these are systemic problems, not the problems of YK3

For clarity: the Hamazaki casting and the delisting of the original are industry issues that are separate from any analysis of a game’s quality as a stand alone work

Ultimately, I suspect that the only long-lasting effect of criticizing the Hamazaki casting is that it reinforces the gamer desire to Complain and to find serious issues to justify the need to post. The overnight about face wrt the quality of the original Yakuza 3 is remarkable

The way people are talking about Kiwami 3, as in the game itself, on your screen, reinforces that developers should never take gameplay or story feedback from regular players and that remakes continue, almost axiomatically, to be bad for the medium, its players, and developers

This is my personal favorite part of the article: perfectly emblematic of how the servants of the elite capital class will dress their humanity-destroying corporate cuckoldry in progressive language to normalize scams designed to rob us blind
