Shout out to the folks on here who recommended Linux Mint.
I have to use Windows professionally sometimes for certain applications stubbornly incompatible with Wine, but after many years of dipping for a while into the Linux pool, I'm finally staying. Thanks!

This is an insightful but deeply upsetting article about why everyone in the US feels poor, and why the current political situation emerges as a direct result.

Apparently there are a surprising number of incidents of people in ICE custody committing suicide while hogtied, because I am an idiot and believe such assertions:

Another clear lesson that "corporations are not your friends". When someone tells you that public funding of community -owned infrastructure is bad, have a drive down a federal highway and reconsider.
here's one they circulated in local papers falsely claiming that Charter broadband is super affordable and that having the city-owned utility offer cheap fiber is a waste a money

most of the claims of Charter pricing, and the costs of the project they're criticizing, are completely made up
Traverse City fiber network rolls out slowly and expensively
Taxpayers spend millions on government-run internet that is more expensive than private service

The FTFNYT persists in its moral panic that someone who isn't wealthy might get a nice thing.
The author of this essay seems to forget that just under half of NY State's population lives in NYC, and that they also get to vote for NY's Governor.

The most insane part of this proposed legislation is that it's retroactive, making past collaborations prohibited.
I'm reminded of how before 9/11, the Bush (Cheney) administration was desperate to gin up a new Cold War with China. That agenda never died.
