The only reason to have the military in D.C. is to increase tensions and antagonize people to the point they over-react, creating "justification" for increasing crackdowns on innocent people. It's all a con.

As a cat owner, I'm used to the random accidental scratch, but with Pumpkin being such a sick ol' man, my lap has become prime real estate. Pumpkin is clumsy, Ninja is cranky, and Beep gets confused. The result? Many, many, many claws get misplaced in my flesh. Sigh. I understand and it's worth it.

We ended up betraying many (most?) of the locals who helped us and leaving them in Afghanistan to dodge the Taliban. A friend of mine who worked for the US finally got visas for himself and his family...from Germany.
Afghans saved many American lives during the war. Way more troops are alive because of them than have been harmed by asylum-seekers. The potential reward of coming to the US was key to securing cooperation. Kicking everyone out will ensure no one helps again.
