I just bent my thumb in that so-called "impossible direction."

This is irresponsible journalism. Something looking a little unusual isn't automatically AI. Jumping the gun with accusations like this isn't good for anyone.
January 9, 2026 at 4:08 PM
This is blatantly false and misleading reporting.

One of the issues of AI usage is it starts to make people hyper-vigilant, leading to false positives.

The images Nintendo have used are legitimate (there are 4K versions available with zero markers for AI), yet they are being vilified for AI usage.
I'm begging the SEO slop mills to write less leading, better headlines than this. And I feel acutely equipped to comment since I wrote for TheGamer and know their process.

And you don't even need to sell a kidney to play it!
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance is now on NSO! The soundtrack is also on Nintendo Music! Crazy they made a whole game based on the guy from Smash Bros.

Received an email a couple days ago from a local solo dev who recently released a cozy idle game all about collecting frogs. Figured it wasn't normally the kind of game I play, but would give it a shot anyway.

12 hours of gameplay later.

Waiting any day now for my wife to give birth (she's due tomorrow!) - so we've been passing the time with daily Binding of Isaac games!

No boardgame in our house has ever gotten quite as much use as this. No doubt we'll be playing it with our daughter one day. 🥰

As somebody who has sunk 1000+ hours into The Binding of Isaac and Enter the Gungeon, how have I never played Nuclear Throne before today!? 🤯

Set in fantasy England, Mistonia is a tale of revenge, and how a heroine navigates love laced with retribution.

Rather than dazzling with constant twists or dramatic declarations like many Otome games, its story is shaped by memory, regret, and hoping again.

Games Completed in 2026
#1 - Firewatch

I've been meaning to play Firewatch for years now, and I'm glad I finally got around to it. It's a deeply human story that went in directions I never would have expected.

Beautiful storytelling and absolutely perfect use of strong colour in its design.

Only just discovered Slay the Spire: Downfall, a free community-made expansion that adds a tonne of extra content, including a new playable character!

Honestly, damn impressed that some game communities are able to make their own content that's just as good as the original game.

2025 was brutal for games media, but I'm seeing some glimmers of hope as worker-owned sites like @aftermath.site, @rascal.news, and @giantbomb.bsky.social have carved out vital spaces in the games community.

Earlier this year, I made a huge Indie Games Media starter pack for y'all. Let's celebrate.

Merry Christmas from the Qualbert team! 🎄🎁

Must've done some sweet talking to Santa this year to get a Steam Deck under the tree. Definitely expect more indie game reviews next year thanks to this thing.

Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and plenty of great games over the holidays. ♥️
