Full ad for Jul 20, 1968 Schlitz Salute to Jazz concert at Red Rocks. This one was ran a week before the concert and they removed Wes Montgomery from the bill. Wonder what Thelonious Monk thought of Red Rocks?

Really dig the first two covers used FOR Jan Reid's feathers ruffling book The Improbable Rise of Redneck Rock (1974). The book is raw and gossipy af, a real document of the scene that was very in-the-moment. His genre tag didn't stick either.

Found out that Mick Jagget lobbied HARD to play Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the movie repulses & fascinates me. If he did get it, what would Stones have have thought abt it in 75? Would it have broken up the band? Would the film still become the cult classic? Many "what ifs" in this thought experiment.

OTD 1969 Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash began 2 days of recording duets in Nashville for Dylan's Nashville Skyline. I love this studio clip of them (not sure which day) of em doing One Too Many Mornings. You get to see Dylan in his Full Crooner voice & watch em cut each other up.

Bill Frisell said in an interview once that he saw the Schlitz Salute to Jazz at Red Rocks July 20, 1968. He really wanted to see his hero Wes Montgomery but sadly Wes passed away the month before on Jun 15, 1968 : (
