Have been thinking about how hard Tish James, as Councilwoman, fought for my Brooklyn neighborhood(s) vs. the Atlantic Yards project.

Here’s a primer on ‘primer.’

It’s pronounced ‘PRIMM-er’ if you mean “a small book” or “a short informative piece of writing.”

It’s pronounced ‘PRY-mer’ if you mean “an initial coat of paint.”

Somehow the legendary Karen Berger (@karenpberger.bsky.social) has fewer than 1000 followers here. This must be corrected. You know what to do, comics folks.
Karen Berger currently only has 982 followers on Bluesky. What in the WORLD.

TELL YOUR LCS not to sleep on this series—>FOC is TODAY. If “The Boys,” “100 Bullets” and “Stray Bullets” got trashed at a party and had a baby, it would be AMERICAN CAPER.

on this week’s deadcast, @sg-marshall.bsky.social hit “the music never stopped,” tracing from jam to song, exploring how the music almost stopped & the band had to sell their record labels, & getting into high times magazine & the ‘70s pot biz with @seanhowe.bsky.social. www.dead.net/deadcast/blu...

Bray is a historian at Rutgers who received death threats after landing on Turning Points USA's Professor Watchlist. As a result, he announced he was moving to Europe. And then this happened.

This kind of harassment and abuse of scholars is Charlie Kirk's legacy and it's only getting worse.

“Someone” cancelled my family’s flight out of the country at the last second.

We got our boarding passes. We checked our bags. Went through security. Then at our gate our reservation ‘disappeared.’

Really savoring Robert Stone's A Flag for Sunrise. Have loved Dog Soldiers for years but had never read anything else except parts of his memoir (also good).

You've probably seen LAURA (8pm), which is, of course, titanic. You will not regret taking the time to watch DAISY KENYON (9:45).

"You can sense complacency now in the debate over extending Trump’s budget authority, which somehow doesn’t touch on his establishment of a secret police force, his deployment of armed service members into U.S. cities, or his selective prosecutions."

"The point isn’t that we’re headed irreversibly toward totalitarianism, but that we should at this point be on guard against complacency, exploiting all legitimate means to change our course."

The Median Experience Of Tyranny
If the politics of tyranny were self-discrediting, we wouldn't need mantras like "never again."

A while back I put some thought into doing a book about the 60s & 70s NYPD "Seven-Ups" unit and its depictions in films—the fact that Frankenheimer did his Popeye-heroin-withdrawal FC II movie instead of some of the real stories about Egan and Grosso and Nunziata and Papa and Matthews is a bummer.

Amazing thread, especially for those with an interest in the NYPD of the 1960s/1970s. (I've been down a rabbit hole, having just read the 1981 book PAPA'S GAME, about the evidence-room theft of the French Connection heroin)

I'm going to share the weird William Friedkin story that's been stuck in my head almost my whole life. Some folks know this, I guess. But it always blows people's minds.
