And closing out PodCastle #DisabilityPride & Magic is @bethkesh.bsky.social's incredible "Godzilla as a Young Man Named Mike" read by @elizachanwrites.bsky.social.

I hosted this episode, so you can find some of my thoughts about the story, and the event as a whole, there:

Congratulations to @podcastle.org for winning an Ignyte Award! 👏

What a beautiful happenstance that my new narration is up there today - 'Vedritsa of the River' by @catchingwords.bsky.social is a sapphic Rusalka story with cli-fi elements, and I was deeply honoured to work on it. Give it a listen!

I can't promise you escapism, but if you want fantasy that face real life issues head on, then do I have a duology for you...

Fathomfolk and Tideborn are excellent, by the way. Everyone should read them, especially given current events. Sea creatures and humans trying to live together in Tiankawi; facing rising tensions, revolution, fear of marginalised folk in a fantastical ESEA-inspired backdrop. Also, dragons.

What a time to be writing fantasy about immigrants being treated as scapegoats and the rise of populist politics...

every time there's political violence discourse i think about how jo cox was assassinated in broad daylight by a fascist who shouted "britain first" as he shot her, and now nine years later her party is dedicating every moment in power to placating the ideology of her murderer

Can't imagine why a Labour Prime Minister like Keir Starmer would be threatened by a party that is working to:

- Lower bills.
- Protect the NHS.

Reminder: if you are worried about AI replacing you as an artist: don’t use AI voices,
If you don’t want composing to be handed over to AI: don’t use it to write text.
You get the idea.

If you value your job: protect others jobs too.

All this talk of when or if to query about a submission, I just want to reiterate one important thing: writers should never be *afraid* to query.

'People do not want the messy, uncomfortable truth that disabled people know—that we are all only one infection or accident away from disability.'

Aaaaah so much this!!!

Add age to that. Lmty, you are *all* going to end up needing care and support to do what you once thought were basic acts.

The offer to us came quite close to the con (3-6 months??), so it's hard to say how widespread it was... but yeah

Well, there was that one time when we got offered an all-expenses-paid trip to China! Mysteriously, there was money for it that year. PodCastle did not take them up on it
