The painting, rendered with ethereal precision, was set in an intricate frame adorned with delicate golden gears. “It is well known that your brother holds these collectible pieces in high regard,” the man remarked with a measured bow, his voice smooth and serpentine. “We thought it might also be to your liking.” Selene’s brow furrowed for the briefest fraction of a second, a flicker so subtle it left her velvet composure unmarred. Of course, the gift wasn’t truly meant for her; it was an offering to curry favor with Verethis. What else could she have expected? “This is a most valuable gift, and I truly appreciate it,” she replied, her practiced smile gracing her lips with flawless precision. Not a hint of genuine gratitude threaded through the words, which flowed with the exact cadence of a finely tuned machine.$

Pay attention to character wants vs. needs.

What they want drives the plot, but what they need creates the emotional core.

The gap between these two creates internal conflict and a powerful arc.

Easy for writers, but GMs should discuss both with players to find depth.

“And what made you choose this place?”
Lola shrugged. “It’s as good as any, isn’t it?”
Sir Hildith raised her eyebrows. “Are you hiding from a something, or from a someone?”
Lola froze. “Why would you ask that?”
“We are very far from Uvaria here. There are many places much closer to your old home. Which leads me to believe you wish to be rid of it.”

However, destiny’s hand stirs the waters of her world, leading her to cross paths with Selene, the only sister of Senator Verethis Thalorian of the imposing city of Atlas, and the fiancée of the son of Ironforge's Commander-in-Chief

She never should have accepted that necklace… Or at least, that was what Alex kept telling herself in a miserable, desperate attempt to avoid facing the fact that, for the first time in her life, there was something that truly mattered to her.

Alex's lips curled slightly as she pinched the edge with her teeth, shaking her head in disbelief. She gazed at Selene with an intensity akin to that of a blind person seeing colors for the first time.
“You’re quite the odd one, did you know that?”
Selene's brow furrowed, she turned her face to meet Alex’s gaze before quickly looking away, revealing her open embarrassment.
And it was something so pretty; everything about her was so pretty. She looked like a clean golden brushstroke on a white canvas. So different from Alexandria, who looked like tar on a worn and tattered cloth.
“Is that bad?” Selene asked in a soft whisper, her voice contrasting with the heat blooming in her cheeks.
“Very much so…” Alex laughed with a hint of bitterness, defeated by the irreverence of her own feelings. "You drive me fucking crazy, Moonbeam.”
Crazy enough to want to have her, and Alex had never wanted anything in her entire life.
