In light of a race for County Executive that looks to be going down to the wire, I'm compelled to circulate THE Claudia Balducci video.

The Bellevue City Council meeting in 2010 where CB made it clear she doesn't ever shirk away from a fight.

We're here at Cal Anderson ready to take donations to help our food banks threatened by cuts to SNAP. Thank you SO much to our setup volunteers, you all rock!
We have the second most regressive state tax system in the country and the taxes we pay to the federal government are being redirected from education, social services, research, etc. And Ferguson doesn't think we should make up that gap at state level?!?!
Kiddo and her friends had a whole group planned (with some parents along) and all but kiddo and her one bestie stayed in. So I'm sitting at home (very) occasionally answering the door, trying not to eat too much candy. 😂
Indeed. But even the wants "soft" on defending democracy (for real) will talk big about "defending" us from the current fascists etc. :/
Reminds me that our current (& hopefully soon former) city attorney first ran for city council with a policy to forcibly round up homeless people and warehouse them in Renton. She still go the support of major Dem politicians up and down the state. That is, can't trust Dems to be antifascist. :(

Crosscut is dead. Long live Crosscut. Today’s the official last day for me and my Cascade PBS newsroom colleagues. We did good work over the decades and it is supremely sad to see it shut down.
It's fascinating the implied racial categories of his two caricatures. Some of Harrell's most strident critics are older non-white (many Black!) women. 🤔 I would also hazard to guess that the younger women who are more likely to vote Wilson are less white than the older women likely to vote Harrel.
omg this. the last two years we did the thing to rollover all my former employer 401ks over to one place and two were on the same platform/company but different accounts/login so we actually missed one. also either the process was super easy or a PITA for every one.
Yeah I can usually talk myself down and get it done but back of my head was this constant rage that this bureaucracy is even a thing. See also figuring out gap insurance between jobs. So many little cuts of forms that don't work well or are baffling and whyyyyyyy.
Extremely relateable. When I do these things I am like "partner, I did a thing please praise me".
I think what is deeply frustrating about this is people were calling for the state (legislators and governor) to prepare for these kinds of eventualities since the executive at the federal level was already cutting things illegally before session ended. Plus Project 2025 made this likely!

Today I'm calling on @governorferguson.bsky.social to declare a state of emergency: the expiration of SNAP benefits for nearly one million Washingtonians will be a disaster for the health of many, and for the economic health of the state. We must join other state governments and act swiftly.

He’s speaking for me. We need an answer:

“I also believe I speak for many a Washingtonian in wondering why, in light of the disastrous impacts of both the H.R. 1 Reconciliation Budget and the government shutdown, state lawmakers are not currently in a special session to forge a path forward” #waleg
Rep. Scott is right:

900,000 people in our state losing SNAP benefits is definitely an emergency.

Hey Seattle voter folks: The Families, Education, Preschool, and Promise levy is up for renewal on this ballot. It’s done a ton to help kids and adults with childcare, mental health care, and of course the Seattle Promise program guaranteeing tuition-free community college.

So vote YES already.
There would be some deep and dark questions I would have, but yes.
Partner: So clearly the message here is that Harrell is using fairy magic to imprison Trump inside a picture frame. I can't think of any other explanation that makes sense.
also focus on what will bring in more ridership. As much as I'd like to see the full originally promised upgrade for route 7, the stuff that is quick to be done is mostly done by SDOT and the rest is $$ (rebuilding streets!) and won't bring that many new riders to an already highly performing route!
Wasn't there a new story from one of the big media outlets a few years ago about the differences in costs in Portland vs Seattle in setting up a food truck (permitting, city fees, etc.)? IIRC it was like on the order of many thousands to do it in Seattle vs like $500 in Portland?
Our close white friends who aren't even related to us (also white) but who have known our kid since she was young get aunt/uncle title! This is like not even a not-white people thing! Certainly all our same generation (and some up one generation) cousins get uncle/aunt too! Just what is this.
I can't help but think about how SNAP benefits are about to go poof and the local Transit Riders Union is organizing food assistance for members but the county & state Democratic Party is apparently doing nothing? Seems important somehow to have civic orgs that support participation.
I had NO IDEA about that part. Like I knew he backed Murray for too long. But to compare it to inconsequential football opinions completely unrelated to abuse allegations?!
