Seraphine collapsed into the front pew, her vision swimming. The golden beams streaming through the stained glass warmed the flagstones and blurred with the candlelight.
A feminine figure clad in a crimson cloak so dark it could have been black swished into Seraphine’s periphery. The figure paused, looking up at a tapestry of Thalor’s likeness in the niche beside the pew Seraphine had collapsed in. Then her hood slid an inch, revealing a delicate jawline and creamy skin, wisps of black hair curling around her chin.

The corner of the beguiling woman’s red mouth lifted. Perhaps she had read Seraphine’s mind, or perhaps Seraphine had whispered her thoughts aloud in her near-unconscious state.
