We are profoundly saddened by the passing of Bertha Purnell, a gun violence survivor, mom, advocate, former Alliance Board Member and peaceful warrior. Illinois has lost a unique voice calling out for justice and peace. Her friendship and wisdom cannot be replaced.

When Sen. Hirono asked Hegseth if he would carry out an order to shoot protestors, he dodged the question.

In addition to the sexual assault allegations, drinking on the job, and ties to white nationalism, Hegseth doesn’t believe in the first amendment.

This is disqualifying.

Before Democrats voted to pass Karina’s Bill in IL tonight, Republicans argued that this law could damage their guns.

Interestingly, they didn’t seem to have the same concern about the lives of women injured or killed by an abusive partner with a firearm.

Survivors and advocates started working on a bill in Illinois to remove guns from domestic abusers when Karina González was still alive.

Gun violence is a public health crisis. Full stop.

AND public health prevention frameworks used on other issues (ex: smoking) may not be applicable given the deep historical, racial, and political roots of firearms in this country.

When my dad was diagnosed with brain cancer, he needed emergency surgery to remove the brain tumor. But our insurance refused to cover the six-figure cost because it “wasn’t necessary.”

The surgeon suggested we go to the ER and *fake headaches* so insurance would cover his lifesaving brain surgery.

The deadliest place for women is at home & 140 women & girls on average were killed by an intimate partner or family member per day last year, 2 U.N. agencies reported Monday.

The intentional killing of women in the private sphere in the Americas is largely by intimate partners.

Georgia officials have dismissed all members of a state committee charged with investigating deaths of pregnant women.
