I joined a bookclub, this week we are articulating our worries into writing

I do not want to live in something pristine and picked clean, I do not want to be in a place stripped of expression and painted the same bland sad beige as everything else, this is not about what's right or wrong - they have made that definition for us already and want to scrub away anything they see dirty. The time for talk and compromise is over, I want gnarled white hands ripped from the arms of the throne, I want to paint their castle in every color other than the one it is now, the one they liked most. Most of all I want what fools who have lost nothing still insist we have: freedom.
