I totally support the National Year Of Reading initiative. We desperately need a culture of reading for pleasure to replace the culture of constant testing in schools, backed by proper government funding. And we need STORYTIME to be part of the school day, every day! #literacy

When you teach- or observe teaching- how do you spot the difference between motivated and engaged pupils and compliance?

So Oak's new AI lesson planner has really got me thinking. Who exactly is it aimed at? My guess is that the most likely people to use it are new teachers and those with limited subject knowledge on a topic. So how well does it do the job if that's you? I thought I'd try it out...

I am increasingly concerned about accepting the damage AI does to the planet- should we really be doing that? We need that water…
Surely schools shouldn't embrace technologies that are particularly harmful to the environment...
June 11, 2025 at 5:43 AM
AI- it’s outsourcing thinking surely and don’t we need to think?
Isn’t thinking a key part of who we are and how we learn?
1. "Yeah, Ben AI might well be awful but it's coming and we can't stop it so we have to find ways it works for us."

No. Actually we don't.

We could quite easily say AI is an age inappropriate and developmentally dangerous technology and schools should lock it out.
