Our neighbors across Philadelphia are facing truly unprecedented hardships.

As the federal shutdown continues, SNAP benefits are set to freeze Saturday & service providers of all kinds — including shelters that once welcomed humans as well as their pets — are being forced to close 🧵
Remembering the early 2000s when the nonprofits I worked for could just post to Facebook and people would actually see it if they had liked your page. 😞
Living this way is a like being inside a doomsday cult: every single moment is the end of the world. As my therapist recently said, "your set-point wasn't hope." And I think this is true more broadly for our society to some extent since we developed the bomb.
For those unaware of the catastrophe I'm referencing, it would have been Chernobyl-sized or worse. It didn't come out until years later and according to one report, the base didn't warn anyone there it was happening. #childrenofatomicveterans
My father was a nuclear bomber pilot. I narrowly escaped death in utero when a nuclear catastrophe involving warheads on a parked B-52 that caught on fire occurred just before my birth - blocks from our base home. Having a parent willing to carry out orders to destroy this 🌎 is 😳. Anti-nuke forever.
This actor pairing (Peter Dinklage and Ethan Hawke) is magical. They must have an amazing set.
This show - !!!! Didn't know I could love Sterlin Harjo more than I already did.

Pennsylvania has an important Supreme Court race coming up on Tuesday, November 4. If you live in the Keystone State, or know someone who does, vote YES to retain three justices who will protect your fundamental rights and freedoms.
Pls share this!
I have been charged in a federal indictment sought by the Department of Justice.

This political prosecution is an attack on all of our First Amendment rights. I’m not backing down, and we’re going to win.
Canine cancer is awful. Every one of our rescues (5 in total, all from different orgs) has had mast cell tumors and/or hemangiosarcoma. Each with different diets/meds. Trying to figure out who can test our soil, as we live in a post-industrial steel town. But honestly, it's probably from trauma.
These are gorgeous! Such talent and skill.
How long after bingeing the series does the Poldark theme stop running through your head
The impact of anti-vaxxing on pets is a nightmare. As if rabies wasn't bad enough, canine influenza is tragic and rips through communities, and we humans can also contract lepto from our dogs. No one wants that. And the impact on people who care for animals in communities is totally ignored.
The cuts to SNAP and other systemic changes are leaving chronically ill and disabled folx with zero choices. Survival is about access to food - but it is also about access to foods that won't maim or kill for so many of us.
Labels were already questionable due to an early-COVID era suspension of label updates by the FDA. And with the cuts to all govt agencies? We're reliant on companies to keep us safe by continuing to truthfully test and label foods - or we don't purchase packaged food. 🧵
When food costs go up, the options are: edit an already limited diet, eat less than is healthy, or nothing at all. We often must visit multiple stores to assemble foods that maintain our health. Food banks are tricky. There are just a few in the US that specialize in stocking allergen-free foods. 🧵
People with multiple food allergies and who follow medically required, restrictive diets to manage chronic conditions never had their foods, supplements, or beverages covered by insurance. We often don't meet the threshold for tax deduction of medical foods. (Tried once and failed.) 🧵

Harrisburg, PA — there are so many older women in banana suits at the Capitol holding antifa signs and none of that sentence would have made sense to me 10 years ago

No Kings rallygoers in Nashville are lining streets and chanting: the crowd is a mix of ages and genders.
