On October 27, 2025, in response to repeated public statements on the part of the government that violated Local Rule 2.01 and threatened Mr. Abrego’s right to a fair trial, this Court issued an Order (“October 27 Order” or the “Order”) prohibiting “[e]mployees of DOJ and DHS” from making any public extrajudicial statements that “have a substantial likelihood of materially prejudicing [this proceeding], including especially that will interfere with a fair trial.” (Dkt 183 at 2-3 (quoting L. Crim. R. 2.01(a)(1))). The Court instructed counsel for the government to transmit the October 27 Order to DOJ and DHS employees and warned that employees who fail to comply with the Order “may be subject to sanctions.” (Id. at 1, 3). On December 12 and 14, after Mr. Abrego was ordered released from DHS custody, and in flagrant violation of this Court’s Order, Chief Border Patrol Agent Gregory Bovino—a senior DHS officer—appeared on national news to call Mr. Abrego an “alien smuggler,” a “wife beater,” and an “MS-13 gang member,” to attack the judges presiding over Mr. Abrego’s civil and criminal cases as “activist” and “extremist,” and to promise that Mr. Abrego would be taken “out of circulation” and deported. When defense counsel raised these statements with counsel for the government, requesting a retraction, the government simply ignored defense counsel’s request— meaning, the government did not even deign to respond to defense counsel’s email raising the concern. Perhaps that is because there is no defense of Mr. Bovino’s conduct: Mr. Bovino’s statements clearly violate this Court’s October 27 Order. The government’s failure even to acknowledge the issue raises serious questions about its willingness to comply with that Order moving forward.

News Team, Thank you for the notes and texts. I apologize for not reaching out earlier. I learned on Saturday that Bari Weiss spiked our story, INSIDE CECOT, which was supposed to air tonight. We (Ori and I) asked for a call to discuss her decision. She did not afford us that courtesy/opportunity. Our story was screened five times and cleared by both CBS attorneys and Standards and Practices. It is factually correct. In my view, pulling it now-after every rigorous internal check has been met is not an editorial decision, it is a political one. We requested responses to questions and/or interviews with DHS, the White House, and the State Department. Government silence is a statement, not a VETO. Their refusal to be interviewed is a tactical maneuver designed to kill the story. If the administration's refusal to participate becomes a valid reason to spike a story, we have effectively handed them a "kill switch" for any reporting they find inconvenient. If the standard for airing a story becomes "the government must agree to be interviewed," then the government effectively gains control over the 60 Minutes broadcast. We go from an investigative powerhouse to a stenographer for the state. These men risked their lives to speak with us. We have a moral and professional obligation to the sources who entrusted us with their stories. Abandoning them now is a betrayal of the most basic tenet of journalism: giving voice to the voiceless. CBS spiked the Jeffrey Wigand interview due to legal concerns, nearly destroying the credibility of this broadcast. It took years to recover from that "low point." By pulling this story to shield an administration, we are repeating that history, but for political optics rather than legal ones. We have been promoting this story on social media for days. Our viewers are expecting it. When it fails to air without a credible explanation, the public will correctly identify this as corporate censorship. We are trading 50 years of "Gold Standard" reputation for a single week of political quiet. I care too much about this broadcast to watch it be dismantled without a fight. Sharyn

Nenko Gantchev should still be alive—home with his family. After 30 years contributing to Chicagoland as a small business owner and taxpayer, ICE detained him, ignored his medical needs, and he died in custody. This system is cruel, reckless, and must be held accountable.

Yes, it’s illegal. Like changing it to Department of War, like ten thousand other things. Part of the Trump strategy is to break the law and convey “the rule of law is weak and feminine and laughable and should be overridden by Our Guy.” Trump is fundamentally anti-law.
