In light of our government’s being dismantled by know-nothings and autocrats, it is even more important for #librarians to teach students how to evaluate sources. I used to teach that .gov domains were reliable, but no more.

Today in flabbergasted, a parent complained to teacher and our spelling bee coordinator that the 6th grade words were inappropriate and her child would not be learning them. Reader, it’s the official Scripps National Spelling Bee list we purchased.

Yesterday a 2nd grader told me quietly, “did you know that I like you?” I responded, “I’m so glad you told me that! It makes me very happy.” Then she gave me a giant, heartwarming hug. We hug children at my school, with permission, of course.

So, who’s going to do the job? Our CFO attempted that as a cost saving measure years ago. It lasted a week. Then he tried to get our custodians to fix the roof, instead of hiring a roofer. They just said no. He also tried to fire the yard crew, but quickly got tired of mowing the entire campus.

At least mine understands it’s teaching, and her sister is a teacher. Librarian skills are pretty broad, but the (good paying, full-time) jobs may be scarce.

I opened a box of #books yesterday to preview for the school #library collection. They’re mostly Canadian publications, and I was impressed by the depth of information about the #Holocaust and #indigenous people.

I finally hosted 2 classes in the #library - we’ve been in school since Aug 1st. It’s been a huge source of frustration for me not being able to, so I went rogue and decided to bring in 1st & 2nd grade.

Had a hallway chat with headmistresses yesterday. She was doing a walkabout because she was exhausted from dealing with problems, but asked how she could support me. We agreed to meet after fall break. I’m also dealing with work frustration.

It’s the mental labor. I love to read (I’m a #school #librarian) but when I get home after school my brain is too cooked. I don’t have the capacity to decide what’s for dinner. And I’ve got nothing but time!
