I'm sorry, but looking at the 4 examples of "emerging" classroom "innovations" sent to me in this email, I'm like nope, nope, nope, nope. As for their being "pioneers" who are enhancing student learning... I lean more toward their being "suckers" who are ultimately undermining learning.
What does effective AI integration in college courses actually look like?

The Chronicle conducted a nationwide survey of more than 850 faculty members and academic leaders and conducted in-depth interviews to find out.

The result is a new report: “The Emerging Multimedia Classroom: How AI Is Changing Course Design and Delivery.” Learn how innovative faculty are reimagining instruction with AI, and get practical insights for your own classroom:

An anthropology professor uses AI to generate historical visualizations, turning them into teachable moments about digital literacy.

A language instructor created a virtual conversation partner that gives students 24/7 practice opportunities.

A writing professor employs AI to help students craft audience personas and refine their work using iterative prompting.

A social sciences professor uses AI to generate songs that make complex concepts memorable.

These pioneers aren't just experimenting — they're thoughtfully integrating AI to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.

I am amused (?) by those who once rejected a certain popular book/movie series for being anti-Christian who are now embracing same said materials now that the author has made their politics known…

"We're doing the studies to make the proof."

This is not how Gold Standard Science works. Or any science. You do the study to TEST THE HYPOTHESIS, not to prove yourself right.

I teach in my undergrad class on the history of the US jury system that the institution's roots are in colonial juries serving as a counterweight to abuses of imperial power. The American jury has problems for sure but still can serve that roll. Don't blow off jury service.

Just because an LLM can produce a report with various figures & charts doesn't mean it is good at statistics.

Because good statistics is not about producing code.

It's about deep knowledge of study design & conduct. In my opinion, 95% of all data science problems come from poor questions & design.

Y'all. I just got ChatGPT to do everything in R for this manuscript. I mean EVERYTHING. And it's all legit and reproducible. I'm shook.

How are we mentoring our trainees in statistics now? Who needs to learn coding in R line by line, and who doesn't?

How do we mentor, teach, and do stats when AI can do so much of the work?

I can't emphasize enough how much everyone being like "nah" can shift the whole thing. If we all collectively said "nah" today, this whole thing would begin screeching to a halt.

The issue here is you got folks trying to sympathize with bigots and the messes with all of us saying "nah".

My gosh. After the US bombed multiple boats in the middle of the ocean, murdering people on grounds that they were allegedly "carrying drugs," the US Attorney General says "Just like we did with cartels, we're going to take the same approach, President Trump, with Antifa."

Proud to serve as the publishing editor for this fantastic piece. The authors position refusal as an ethical/methodological stance for working with "materials that depend on the objectification of, and through that objectification the commodification of, human subjects." It's a must read!

My latest cartoon for @newscientist.com
p.s. My new book of science cartoons 'Physics for Cats' is out this week. Details at www.tomgauld.com
Panel 1
A figure stands at a lectern
"This image illustrates my theory that, presented with a sufficient quantity of intricate formulae, overcomplicated diagrams and impenetrable acronyms, an audience will agree with almost anything."
The screen is completely packed with such things

Panel 2,3,4,5.
Four audience members say enthusiastically: "My thoughts exactly!", "Hear, hear!", "I quite agree!" and "Excellent point!"

I wrote about all the lived experiences and strange structures of modern society — many of which we take for granted — that were literally impossible for all previous generations of Homo sapiens. www.forkingpaths.co/p/we-are-dif...
We are different from all other humans in history
Countless experiences that have become routine for us are unprecedented in the history of our species. Here's why that matters.

My blog post reporting on testing the use of agentic AI (the Fellou.ai browser) to start a research project on gathering definitions of the humanities: “Humanities Definitions Research Project: An Experiment with Agentic AI” (liu.english.ucsb.edu/humanities-d...).
Screenshots of the Fellou interface while its browser agent is in progress on a research task prompted by the user. (A) and (B) represent windows with multiple browser tabs open to searches. Each tab in these windows shows rapidly changing thumbnails of the websites, articles (including PDFs), and other materials that Fellou is currently searching and analyzing. A panel at the right of each window shows a partial view of the kinds of sources and topics Fellou has planned to search in response to the user’s prompt.
(C) is a window showing a periodically refreshed report on progress so far. In this window, the panel at the left shows in separate blocks some of the kinds of sources and topics that Fellou plans to search. The wide panel in the center summarizes results. And the panel at the right shows in blocks the specific sources and key phrases currently being “deep searched.”
