i’m very sorry for misunderstandings. i removed “nonbinary” from my profile the last time i was getting dunked on because i didn’t want people to cater their insults to me being nonbinary… but now not having it is causing confusion.
i’m nonbinary. apologies, and thank you for understanding!

Any of my developer friends, or developers in general, please get in contact with Geoffrey! Steam's poor moderation needs to be discussed, and I'm glad Geoffrey is addressing this!
I am looking into this, I've reached out to Steam directly, and I'm actively pitching stories on this subject of the platform's shaky moderation. If any other devs have experienced something similar with reviews and moderation, do reach out.
the Steam team responded to my support request and said they will not remove the review calling me a liar and ridiculing my sexual assault because of censorship concerns.

If any other devs have experienced a severe lack of steam following their own guidelines to take down harassing steam reviews for their indie game, reach out to Geoffrey.
I should say, as it might be worth pointing out publicly, I am looking into this, I've reached out to Steam directly, and actively pitching stories on this subject so if any other devs have experienced something similar do reach out.

i hope maybe this issue gets taken seriously if it gets attention.

Here I am editing my game over and over and over and over and over again out of massive concern that Steam will slam it for having dance costumes and meanwhile Nazi stuff gets millions of sales and no one at Steam bats an eyelid. 🙃

it’s kinda been a shock to hear so many stories like this and see the pattern here. it’s a hard pill to swallow, even if unsurprising. this is really the behavior of the storefront that the entire industry uses for selling their games and there’s nothing anyone can do… just put up with it.
I posted on a game's community forum that they lost a sale from me because they were bigots and I hoped other people would follow.

It got removed for harassment.

Meanwhile *this* is okay Steam?! Okay. Piss off.

Wishing the big guys at Valve choke on their lunch this afternoon. 🖕

Completely aside from the other horribleness here, to say "we don't try to moderate reviews based on accuracy" is tantamount to admitting your reviews system is a completely arbitrary popularity contest that may not have any actual relation to the product. One that can make or break your game sales!

Also in their own rules of conduct it is forbidden to abuse any players, developers etc. in their reviews.

So whoever is assisting you here is working directly against Steam's own rules.

just working on improving my games and putting out good work won’t fix anything, not even for myself, because at the end of the day i have to tolerate abuse knowing that the platform outright allows it.
it’s more than values not aligning.

thank you tho. best of luck to you too.

i appreciate the sentiment to look on the bright side but this (and my issue with both the review and Steam’s stance) is about ridiculing sexual assault. if Steam supports extreme abuse toward developers by allowing it, it’s not something i can ignore since it creates an unsafe environment.

this review was made in 2023, when some people already reported it but it was left up. then recently i finally flagged it, but a Steam mod cleared it. now lots of people helped report it, but it’s still up. i have a hard time seeing what the justification might be for the Steam mods leaving it up.
update:
the review with the slur was finally taken down, but the one that calls me a liar and references my r*pist is still up.
please help keep reporting this: steamcommunity.com/profiles/765...
i cannot flag it because a Steam mod decided ridiculing someone’s SA is an appropriate review.

it clearly violates the community guidelines.
please help report it. 🙏

i would think it’s a bad look for Steam if the review sections of games look like a 4chan post. is that really necessary just for being on Steam?
