It was hilarious, because pretty much the only reason the other four jurors wanted to convict was because of their blind reverence for law-enforcement, and they had to hear that bailiff’s assessment.

Anyway, it felt like we had really accomplished something. The assistant DA had not proved guilty beyond a reasonable suspicion. The topper was when the bailiff, who was retired city police officer, told us in the hallway that she would’ve found the defendant not guilty, too.

I second this. The last jury I served on, I had the honor of being the foreman in a DUI trial that involved a terrible CHP officer. Horrible, lazy investigative skills. Couldn’t believe the DA brought the case to trial. Ended up with a locked jury (8 to 4, not guilty). Judge dismissed the charges.

The Dem committee needs over 100,000 valid signatures across multiple congressional districts before the state’s 90-day window expires on Dec. 11 to let voters decide on the maps.

Missouri Democrats have an opportunity to block a new congressional map. They say they’re largely on their own.

Despite relatively little investment from Washington, Missouri and Ohio Democrats are looking to block new Republican-drawn maps through uncertain avenues.
