States shouldn't have to earn the right to federal aid. But in any case, California, which subsidizes the rest of the country, definitely has open.substack.com/pub/paulkrug...

Scientists are expected to do peer reviewing but no one tells you HOW. After talking with several folks about this today at #AGU24 , it seems a good time to link to this presentation I made several years ago -- feel free to use/share! docs.google.com/presentation...

The one and only real @realxinzhao.bsky.social giving his usual 200% energy to his intrigued audience at this morning's poster session at #AGU24 agu.confex.com/agu/agu24/me...

Yeah, but also something softer, politely indicating the outcome of a study is dated/superseded/not useful anymore😂.

There should be a good process (peer-reviewed) to “unpublish” journal articles. And one would also get credit to do so.

The strain on scientific publishing: we set out to characterise the remarkable growth of the scientific literature in the last few years, in spite of declining growth in total scientists. What is going on?

The usual suspects are out there yelling "There are 23 million government workers! Fire most of them!" No awareness that most work for local governments, and most of *them* are schoolteachers. Federal employment hasn't grown since the 1950s

As more 2035 NDCs are being released, it comes in handy that we at Center for Global Sustainability have just published a report on what High Ambition 2035 targets could be for 17 major emitting countries, as well as their combined global emissions and temperature impact. tinyurl.com/56pyu3sd 1/6
Alt text: Screenshot of CGS’s report “Table 2.1. Total GHG Emissions Reductions by 2035 for the G20 Countries and Globally Under the High” which shows for 17 major emitting regions as well as for World what a high ambition 2035 NDC emission target would be, in total GHG incl. and excl. LULUCF compared to the countries respective base year (or future assumed peaking year), as well as in GHG excl LULUCF compared to 2023 (as this is the most comparable metric, though country specificities mean that even in that metric, differentiation is of course to be expected).
