There sat Fuku, his back leaning against the stone, all four legs forward—struggling, flailing, and very much failing—to fend off the advances of… a soft, squishy, pink piglet. Ben’s mouth fell open. His eyes went wide at the impossibly adorable sight. He dropped into a crouch without thinking, just to get a closer look. “Ben… you’re too late—” Fuku groaned. The piglet bounced against him, eager and relentless. Its curly tail bobbed merrily, downy wings fluttered with excitement, and little grunts squeaked from its snout as it tried to lick Fuku’s face.

A highlighted passage from a manuscript which reads: Their river “bath” wasn’t luxurious or relaxing. It was rapid—but refreshing. “I can’t believe how much gross stuff you’re covered in, Ben,” Fuku said—for the twelfth time—as he scrubbed, one paw gripping the handled brush while the other pinched his nose. “I’m not the only one who’s filthy, Fuku,” Ben replied. He held onto Fuku’s back legs, leveraging him upside down behind him as he scrubbed. Fuku’s idea, not his—but it did let the Tanuki reach the hard to reach spots rather efficiently.
