I'm so sorry to share that Friedemann Pulvermüller, brilliant neuroscientist, has passed. He gave Embodiment ideas legs and worked tirelessly on treatments for stroke victims during his storied career. His kindness and wry humor made him sparkle.

Very happy to see this preprint out! The amazing @danwang7.bsky.social was on fire sharing this work at #ECVP2025, gathering loads of attention, and here you can find the whole thing!
Using RIFT we reveal how the competition between top-down goals and bottom-up saliency unfolds within visual cortex.

If you were as unfortunate as me, and missed King Kabir (@arora-borealis.bsky.social)'s talk at #ECVP2025 on the differences (in early visual processing) between internal and external attentional selection... no worries, you can find the paper here: share.google/TDIZCDK9puB6...

Ever wondered if you were aware of your own biases? Us too! If you're attending #RLDM2025, stop by poster #92 on Friday to learn how we tested insight into perceptual decision biases using (hierarchical) drift diffusion modelling. Work with @kobedesender.bsky.social, Peter Murphy & Hanne Daenen.

I nearly gave up—but didn’t, only because I had a specific project in Belgium (for a specific number of months). Otherwise, I would’ve chosen somewhere else. My point: small, low-effort changes to immigration laws could make a big difference in keeping scientists from giving up on Europe.
Even more absurd when you consider I can enter the EU on a Chilean passport for 90 days—yet Belgium requires a TB certificate for researcher/work visas. Their explanation? To protect Belgians from certain diseases. But I’ve only lived in countries with lower TB rates than Belgium. Makes no sense.
Great. A good start'd be making PhD immigration less absurd. Born in Chile, lived 7 yrs in the UK, then 4 in Sweden—yet Belgium required a tuberculosis certificate with x-rays. That’s despite TB rates being lower in Sweden, UK, & Chile than in Belgium. & doctors don’t order x-rays without symptoms.

There are so many concepts that people create that probably refer to things that don't exist. I hope people are more careful and reduce the concepts they summon to keep a clean field rather than because of coolness.
Maybe people are becoming more rigorous and they only use 'consciousness' when you need to distinguish between unconscious processing and conscious awareness/access. If such a distinction isn't needed, then why use the word 'consciousness'?
