My early career as a preschool classroom formed me to value others’ freedom, loves, needs, and expression over my own desire to control the environment or the outcomes I wanted for them.

It’s been the perfect training for parish ministry.⚓️

What a great way to speak of prayer's power as life-giving guide

⚓️Sunday morning, we'll open our first Eucharist service back in the church with a Litany of Thanksgiving for a Church (BCP 577-79). If I had more than 3% battery, I'd link to it now. It's beautiful and I can't wait to pray it together!

Today, I was asked how to pray for us in Chicago. I responded with a detailed list of ways they can engage with the justice issues using time, money, or influence.

White evangelicalism's belief that prayer *by itself* will change the world is messed up and dangerous. We gotta act *and* pray.⚓️

Made my 2nd annual trek to Wisconsin to get tart orchard apples today, and I've had three apples this afternoon.

Ever since childhood, "binging" on fresh fruit has been one of my biggest pleasures.

That quote is not out of context, the full version is worse.
“Then obviously the particular characteristics of an individual, how they look, how do they look compare to, say, you?” he said to the reporter, a tall, middle-aged man of Anglo descent.

I'm asking your prayers for Chicago this evening, as ICE and others are ramping up the violence against protesters at Broadview. ⚓️

The exhibit did a great job of putting her art in context biographically, geographically, historically. I want to go back when there are fewer people so I can linger.

Re: today's march in Chicago at 1 pm at 50 W Washington: I have seen some people posting complaints about this march that don't make sense, and I want to respond. First, some people complain that folks should take action in affected communities. They are. It's called rapid response. (Thread.)

And I just checked my tracker-- I walked over ten miles today. Like I was saying, a truly perfect Chicago day off

Absolutely perfect Chicago day off-- a long neighborhood walk with the dog, a quick trip to the art museum to see the fabulous Elizabeth Catlett exhibit for the first (but def not the last) time, and half-priced live theater in the evening.

Evangelical kid me was terrified of the rapture after seeing Thief in the Night. I remember trying to ward it off by trying to schedule it. Like, if I imagined it would happen on Friday, at least it wasn't going to happen then!

Yay for you and yay for the church!

October holds our first Sunday in the new church, followed byribbon-cutting with dignitaries, the bishop's visitation, and the start of baptisms and interments that waited while we worshipped in a restaurant.

How tense are these joyful days? They're "bake a full pan of brownies" stressful. ⚓️

People often say they don't know how to start and the reality is that you just start. You can figure things out and people will help you to do so if you reach out to them.

Whom does it serve to make a distinction between violence and political violence? I heard a podcast this week where that was discussed (but I don't remember which one).

Does it minimize "regular" violence? If so, do we really want to do that?

Thanks for this! Would you please post alt text with all photos, though, so that those of us who need it can also enjoy what you're sharing?
