Raul Malo and Joe Ely, two artists I’ve been a fan of for years, passed away this month. Each had a great solo career. Raul was the frontman of The Mavericks, and both were part of a project I was involved in called Los Super 7. This episode of Air-Conditioned shines some love their way.

Joe Ely passed away today at his home in Taos, New Mexico. I was listening to his music this afternoon, before I heard this news. He was such a thoughtful, kind-spirited man, and his music had fans from Springsteen to The Clash.

Rob Reiner made some of my favorite movies. Tonight, it’s The Princess Bride. I always loved Mark Knopfler's score in The Princess Bride. There are so many quotable lines. Don't forget: “Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.”

Vanity Fair listed Episode 6 "Ábidoo'niidę́ę́ (What We Had Been Told)” of Dark Winds, Season 3 one of the best TV episodes of 2025. Writers Max Hurwitz, Billy Luther, and director Erica Tremblay did a beautiful job taking the show to new heights. I love music supervising this show.

For this 226th episode of Air-Conditioned, Prince delivers some obscure and familiar gems, including a cinematic noir meditation on old friends, a nice interpretation of one of Joni Mitchell’s best songs off of Blue, and more.

Aretha Franklin and Marvin Gaye testify. We'll also hear ...

Trump may think he’s ingratiating himself to Democrats, but this pardon is one more example that Crooks run with Crooks. By the way, I don’t care how many Democrats are in the Epstein files, anyone who has proven to be guilty should serve a sentence, regardless of their political leanings.

This week’s episode of Air-Conditioned shines the light on rock between 1967 and 1970. It was a musically rich time, and you can hear it in these fine tracks by Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Beatles, Cream, Allman Brothers, Steppenwolf, Blind Faith, Led Zeppelin, James Gang, and Derek & The Dominos. 1/2

I remember standing in a Memphis department store, Goldsmiths, in the area where televisions were sold. There was a wall of these TVs, and dozens of adults watching the Kennedy funeral, and John F. Kennedy Jr. saluted as the casket passed. Dozens of adults around me wept. 1/2

The beloved Tennessee Troubadour Todd Snider passed away Nov 14th, supposedly of Walking Pneumonia. It was a shock to everyone in the Americana world, especially in Nashvile. This 223rd Episode of Air-Conditioned is a tribute to this beloved singer-songwriter. #toddsnider 1/3

This development isn't surprising, sadly. All the years and life experience of creatives are being drained and repurposed to "allow users to remake songs using artificial intelligence tools." If there's any positive aspect to this, I would love to know. #KLAY 1/2

We’re fans of Slow Horses, and the show’s theme song with Mick Jagger. Realizing I needed to think about this week’s episode of Air-Conditioned, I started there, and rounded up Morphine, Talking Heads, Soul Coughing, Chuck Prophet, St Vincent, Television, and Elvis Costello & The Attractions. 1/3

Florence + The Machine, Madison Cunningham, and Hannah Frances are uniquely gifted artists who just released some great new music. They get love on this 200th episode of Air-Conditioned, as well as Radiohead, Mitski, Dirty Projectors, Bjork, Dust City Opera, and James Blake. 1/3

Good morning! Truly a good morning! I would like to add one election outcome that will probably be overlooked, but one that is very encouraging. Mississippi, a state with a long history of voter suppression, particularly the Black population, had very good election results for Democrats.
When a party has supermajority status in the Mississippi Senate, it can more easily override a governor’s veto, propose constitutional amendments and execute certain procedural actions.

After 13 years, Mississippi Democrats broke the Republican Party's supermajority in the Mississippi Senate, flipping 3 legislative seats.

Tonight’s 60 Minutes opening segment featured Norah O'Donnell interviewing the self-important con artist currently in the gilded Oval Office. Thankfully, this wasn't a capitulation to trump, as the segment only succeeded in allowing his lack of self-awareness to strut his massive character flaws.

As payrolls for government employees have been stopped and SNAP benefits are being cut off (affecting tens of millions of people), not to mention the fact that Health Insurance premiums are skyrocketing, it is worth noting that Republicans continue paying ICE. Ponder that.

Watching trump’s desecration of the White House is heartbreaking. He does whatever he wants, and no one stops him, certainly the Republican Party. The system of checks and balances has been dismantled enough that his raging ego can run amouk.
