I know it's been a while, but I want to share some upcoming shows with my Chicago pals (and the rest of you, I suppose). First, fresh from the Toronto underground, The Pee Pee Poo Poo Man arrives NEXT THURSDAY! You've never seen anything like it, trust me:

RIP Masahiro Shinoda, whose DOUBLE SUICIDE and SILENCE would make a hell of a double feature. Throw in SAMURAI SPY and you’ll start to get a sense of the depth and range of his experimentation. An indispensable filmmaker.

I went down the rabbit hole of Errol Morris’ influence on the Netflix house style, and how Netflix is influencing him in turn.

The true-crime streaming industrial complex is corrupting the work of the very documentarian who helped make it the genre what it is today.
Errol Morris defined modern true crime. Will streaming define him?

Believe it or not, there are places in the world where people are optimistic about the film industry. One of those places is Japan, where Daihachi Yoshida's Teki Cometh is enjoying a successful awards run:

One day you're stalking Richard E. Grant at a party, the next you're standing in a puddle at the impound lot in suede shoes. A lot has happened in the past 11 days, including me writing a lot of movie reviews. (Like that pivot?) This one was my favorite:

I saw one Cybertruck the entire time I was in the tech-bro paradise of Austin, 12 miles from the Tesla "gigafactory." (it was camo, guy's a lost cause.) Tesla had no presence at SXSW that I could see, but another electric car company, Rivian, did.

My weird side hobby is tracking how many tesla showrooms are attacked and y'all it's so many
