The kayfabe explanation for this is essentially exposure therapy; It had happened to Mox so many times that he had a way to counter it, and even if he hadn't, the DRiders were around to save him.

With the Death Lock, he had just had his knee hit with a bat repeatedly, and all the DRiders were out.

mox saw bd wouldn't stop, couldn't stop, until someone put him down so hard he had no choice. mox is the same, but he's tied too deeply to the history of AEW to let go. he's so, so tired but he can't allow himself to give up until somebody forces him.

#AEWWrestleDream my hot take is that was a totally ok finish to an overall mediocre main event.

1. mox had a wet flag over his mouth, he was literally getting waterboarded when he quit
2. mox's whole deal with the death riders is that he needs someone to do to him what he did to danielson.

For anyone thinking the ending to Mox/Allin didn’t feel right, here’s a history lesson for you: Authoritarians torture their victims to get them to submit, but when the tides turn on them, they quit very easily because they’re not as strong as their followers think they are. #AEW

It seems like the story they are trying to tell with Moxley in AEW is one of him being afraid of submissions or being choked out since the last few times he's lost have been due to some type of submission or choke, so if that's the story they're telling, the WrestleDream ending kind of makes sense!!

I really think Darby should have had to do something way more extreme to get Mox to say I Quit.

Other than that everything on the card made sense and furthered storylines along nicely.

As is normal for an AEW PPV, it was full of killer matches!

Maybe, or maybe that's the ending they planned... But if I had to guess, #AEWWrestleDream probably went over the time they were supposed to end, considering the post-show says it is supposed to start at 11:45 PM, and why Amazon had issues near the end of the show for some viewers!!

The entire match was just a crazy anticipation of what's next. I loved it in all its horrific glory.

Pretty flawless show tonight. Sometimes the least exciting builds still deliver on all fronts.

Possibly my 3rd or 4th favourite PPV this year.

WrestleDream was a very good meat-and-potatoes PPV. One of their most consistent. The AEW story remains the same: Doesn't matter whose hurt, doesn't matter the card, or even if the TV is great, middling or frustrating, the PPVs are never less than good and are usually great.
