You talk about how they are incapable, and how they can't actually accomplish anything, and that is all true. They don't have unlimited reserves, but they aren't putting in the effort. We also don't have unlimited reserves, and we need to do things well enough, so that's MORE work.

Saying we will win is not only not any kind of comfort, it actually makes me more concerned about the future because it tells me that this person thinks of all this as a game that can be won.

ICE observers in the Twin Cities suburbs say they fear being injured or killed, but are dedicated to being on the right side of history. They say working together has brought them community and connection. And they're seeing shifts in attitudes among their neighbors. www.mprnews.org/story/2026/0...

The suburban observers, heavily women, say they share a personality type.

“Many of us have encountered bullies our entire lives...I think that turns you into somebody that, even if that bully is wearing full tactical gear, I'm not interested in laying down for you.” www.mprnews.org/story/2026/0...

ICE watch has been life-changing: “I feel like our whole lives as Minnesotans...it’s always kind of like, ‘Don’t even start that kind of thing because you have to live around these people. I feel that’s gone in me personally — I don’t even care if I ruffle feathers.” www.mprnews.org/story/2026/0...

Suburban observers are more alone against the feds: ”We realized we could deal with a ticket, we could deal with going to jail at some point. But we could not deal with the very real risk and high probability of us being injured, us being detained or us being killed.” www.mprnews.org/story/2026/0...

Suburban observers say ICE has only been more aggressive since Homan: “I think they’re getting angry that we’re winning and the country is rallying around us. We’re so organized and we act with such integrity. They don’t want to admit they feel threatened by us.”

Most of the footage you see from ICE observers in Minnesota comes from the core cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. I talked to observers in the northern suburbs, who say they're taking on the same mission in very different conditions. (1)

The question, "is any of this legal, and if they are going to act illegally what is the point of 'know your rights'?"-I want to pull way back and ask for some looking in the mirror.

I am at this point, absolutely enraged at the trans men who sum up the fear at transmasculinity as being about passing. Way to make everything about your own ego.
February 3, 2026 at 1:36 PM
Transmasculine guys who are also autistic really need to stop talking about how passing is just a matter of trying. My guy, your autistic brain is masculine coded.

Transgender academics take their categorization too seriously, take 2. There is a supposed divide between the "real "transexuals" with "material needs" who are lower class being overridden by the bourgeois nonbinary who only care about identity.

When I was in college I took a psychology course and one topic of discussion was the scientific study of gender differences, now, this was a good class in that it presented what academics were saying without giving too much weight to one or the other interpretation. But it also was some time ago

"women and femmes experience the most violence" is not actually grounded in any reality, but is an externalizing of patriarchal framing onto the outside world.

It makes me angry to see people repeating "we are going to win". Win what? "Winning" as if we are playing a video game and can get a pixel trophy at the end.

If there's a point in the future where doing journalism that isn't sanctioned by the US government becomes illegal in the US this will be one of the key moments that led to it.

This is why people say that the Democrats want to lose. Voters will rightly assume that the proposal bandaids that have lost their stickiness so that they fall off almost immediately is your opening bid, then that bid is supposed to be lost, and that is supposed to be visible to the right people.
The thing about a strong opening position is it gets you more than a weak one. This is basic. You don't start with what you think you'll get.

Maybe Democrats don't *want* to lose, but they sure don't help the narrative that says that they do when they negotiate against themselves so assiduously.

There is an argument that everyone should get a four year degree liberal arts education because it makes people smarter, but what it actually does is teach people who are not mentally capable of doing that kind of thinking to mimic it and this is what it sounds like.

Incompetence does not mean there is less danger, in fact in many ways it increases the danger to people. The incompetence means they don't know how to stop it, even if they realize it is in their self interest.

I've been listening to the book, How to Hide an Empire by Daniel Immerwahr, about how the US is a colonial power that has hidden this fact from itself. It goes over some of the history of the territories, of which I have felt the absence of knowledge since I learned of their existence as a kid.
