A small fire at the front of the bookshop was started last night after rubbish bags that were awaiting collection were set on fire. The guards don’t have reason at this time to believe it was a targeted attack. Thankfully the damage was limited and everyone is safe. We are open for business as usual

I think this is the first time in a long time that all of my finished but unpublished stories are under consideration somewhere or other. Literally can't remember the last time I looked at the folder where I keep them and found it empty.

Nineteen years ago this week, an unexpected conversation at Readercon led to the creation of Clarkesworld. The day before, I had no interest in working in publishing. As hard as it is sometimes, I can't imagine not doing it now.

Oh and please subscribe if you can

The reality is that Interzone were harassed off this site by “writers” who didn’t like being reminded that they have a responsibility to take a proactive stance against AI. They just want to sit back and hope someone else solves the problem, and they can’t stand anyone calling out that apathy.

letter are AI free. Editors shouldn’t want to work with writers who approve of AI use, and writers should want editors to know that they don’t approve of AI. Simply put, we need to be more vigilant about the publications we associate ourselves with. 4/4.

of submissions and readership. Unfortunately, the time for sitting back and saying “I don’t use AI so I’m fine” has passed. We all need to be taking a more proactive stance against the use of AI. Even something as small as making sure the two or three prior publications you mention in your cover 3/?

“Well what if I didn’t know about the AI use?” You should have. As writers, we’re supposed to read the publications we submit to and get published in. We don’t always, I’m guilty of it too, but we need to start being better for the sake of catching out the use of AI and starving those publishers 2/?

My 2 cents on the current AI discourse: if you mention a publication that’s used AI for artwork in your cover letter to another publication, the editor has no way of knowing your views on that use of AI. You’ve left open the possibility that you’re pro-AI. 1/?
