Damn Yankees ends with a couple loving each other enough to beat a contract with the devil, and this is staged via a reprise of a love song that they sing SO LOUD it drowns out the devil’s complaint. I’m not saying this is directly relevant to current events, but I am not NOT saying it.

“The Nobel Committee is an independent body and the Norwegian government has no involvement in determining the prizes. But I’m not sure Trump knows that. We have to be prepared for anything from him.” -- Norway's foreign ministry spokesperson Kirsti Bergstø.

Image for comparison - the tree-filled terrace running parallel to the Potomac (estimating 65% of the trees were chopped down)
rjritzel.bsky.social
Sorry that I thought "lower terrace" meant by the parking garage exits. Looking at the pics on a computer (instead of a phone) makes a biiiiig difference.

Oh my God. What on earth are they doing? That portico was so, so unbelievable pleasant.
rjritzel.bsky.social
So did they chop down the gorgeous willows on the north side, and the trees on main level terrace?

Hey arts admin friends: For my @rjionline.bsky.social project, I'm looking to hire someone to draft an MOU for donors interesting in funding arts journalism. Anyone interested?

in my experience, the difference between arts consultants and general consultants, very roughly speaking, is that the former tend to apply a set of prefabricated tools from the outside whereas the latter help develop specific tools from within the organization. exogenous vs. endogenous

Tonight I see 2+2=5, the new documentary about George Orwell, while living in DC during a shutdown and *waves hands* all THIS. The Q&A after will be moderated by Terry Moran, who was fired from ABC News for describing Stephen Miller accurately.

Does “Orwellian” even have any use? Guess I’ll see!

The WPA murals are a vital part of our nation’s artistic history, and to the extent that they can remain public, they should!

Nobody else is writing about this, so please re-post my two-part series about the imminent sale of what one expert calls “the Sistine Chapel of New Deal art.” Preservationists need to move fast.

This is the kind of story I'm hoping @theassemblync.bsky.social will jump on -- they do some good arts and entertainment investigative work -- although then it would be paywalled/siloed as North Carolina news.
