Hello if you are new here.

We share the sounds from real places, all recorded by us using a technique we have developed over many years.

We share quiet from 26 counties across the country.

Listening is better with headphones to get the full effect.

Here's one of our favourite rain episodes.

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

We are living in the age of warlords. That much is clear by now.
‘You Who Wronged’ by Czesław Milosz. For some reason or other this poem came to mind this morning. Written in a time of tyrants:

This is a brilliant Christmas idea – order three of these wonderful prints and send them to 3 of your enemies. Two of them will lie awake at night wondering what's going on, and one of them will be dead. Wins all round, eh!
Can't figure out if the slump in Christmas sales this year is a result of not using Twitter on principle, the general economic climate, or fact I accidentally revealed that I've stuffed a small amount of poison into one in every three orders to reap victims for the Old Gods

I read on the instructions that these fertiliser sticks last about 100 days, which means that I have spent €3 on enough plant fertiliser to last me and my plant the next 27 years and four months, may God preserve us!

I have spent months too broke to buy anything, but the temptation was simply too much. And I ordered the large one! No point in half-measures here.

Always enjoy our parents' generation's disapproval at early Christmas decorating, solemnly sighing that they usen't put up a thing until 3 seconds before midnight on the 24th of December and all that they had was half an orange with a clove stuck in it and an angel made from potatoes and misery
