For the #birdoftheday theme of #oddcouples, a white-faced ibis and cattle egret hunt for food in a flooded field.

A repeat post, but fitting for the #birdoftheday theme of #oddcouples.
Although it would seem the coyote was hunting the birds, it showed no interest in them. Instead it grabbed a large fish and ran away to eat it.

#GoVegan now! There is no need for abuse, torture and killing.
Just like we should have never enslaved people.
The number of land animals killed for food every year (92 billion) is close to the number of humans that have lived and died over the last 192,000 years.

No other form of exploitation, no catastrophe, and no violent industry in the world can even remotely compete with eating animals.

This is some of the best ecology writing I’ve seen, but it still assumes intervention.

The debate shifts from how many elephants to which processes to manage, but restraint itself rarely enters the frame.

Elephants and marulas — a call for a more nuanced approach to nature’s drama in Kruger National Park
The ‘elephant problem’ debate tracks this logic: dead or damaged trees with signs of elephants being involved equals evidence of too many elephants which requires their numbers to be reduced. This int...
