I’ve worked at the Southbank Centre for over 8 years now.

In that time I’ve become desensitised to mad conversations that wouldn’t happen anywhere else. But in my first few years I noted down ‘overhead’ snippets that would be ridiculous in any other setting.

I’ve just found those notes. Strap in.

Astonishingly, even this doesn't begin to capture how smug these people sound.

“Oh, did a sportsball happen?” I whisper smugly from my vantage point on a distant cliff, the sounds of celebration in the village far below just barely audible over the lonely wind whipping my tattered cloak

Episodes 3 and 4 are magnificent.

It's my favourite Davison. It's not the best one but it is my favourite. I love it AND it reminds me of my childhood. And I adore those four people.

(Caves is CLEARLY the best one. But it's a cold hard one to be your favourite.)
I've just watched Part One of "Castrovalva". To a fifteen year old DWAS member in 1982 this made perfect sense. OF COURSE this is how you would start the new series, the new era! Now, it's just completely unbelievable. I am revelling in its zero-marketing thundering literalism. I love it for that.

My fave Kubrick anecdote: David Prowse on acting in A Clockwork Orange:
'So you want me to carry Patrick Magee, who weighs 17Olbs, plus the wheelchair, another 30lbs, so 200lbs, down the stairs & then do a dialogue scene?'
'Yeah, you can do it.'

In April 1976, in a café at Cambridge railway station, Douglas Adams bought some biscuits. We know this because he told the story so many times that it somehow opened up a wormhole in the space-time continuum, travelling both forwards and backwards and, intriguingly, sideways in time. (1/some...)
