I like Doctor Who, running, Freak Zone music, and the Scottish Green Party, and I love my cat Marvin and my wife Helen. (he/him).

And clone Leela staying in the cloning cubicle and looking out at the camera but not saying anything or being acknowledged by any of the speaking characters is just gloriously weird. I audio-taped this at the time so can recite it, so all the oddities for me are visual like this.

The Doctors are all still men and the nurses and receptionists all still women. Surgeons are still indulgent and eccentric and everyone else is functional.

Retrospectively, Marius' lab now looks like one of the partitioned off areas in the exhibition centres that were pressed into service as Covid vaccination centres. As he transfers the mini clones into the Doctor the episode is quiet for the only time.

"The Invisible Enemy" Part Two is marked by some unique stylistic oddities. Lowe's visor makes him look as though he's summoning K9 into existence via voodoo cosplay. The ophthalmology department is signified by a pen and ink figure from an anatomy textbook.

This is the most on-brand Reading story possible. Not the festival, the town.

Reading, 1998. I went with a group of friends including my ex, cos we'd bought tickets before the break up. Sunday night after many drinks, she offered sex. I turned her down on grounds it could re-open old wounds. Better than admitting I'd shat myself in the queue for the bogs.

I see this and picture Al Murray’s pub landlord beating his chest and chanting “FAAAM-LY”.

5K PB training cycle 4 of seven complete. 8 days, 6 runs, 38 miles in 5 hrs 53 mins. I covered roads, canal towpaths, and two different 400m outdoor running tracks. I'm finally beginning to feel the positive effects of these last five weeks.

Take comfort from me. I passed first time at 23. 12 years later, I made a bad call while overtaking and caused a head-on. Banned for a year, license only to be returned after I had re-sat my test. In my mid-thirties this took four attempts. At least you don't have 12 years of bad driving to unlearn.

Gosh. Rush have announced a short 50th anniversary tour for next summer. Like Spinal Tap, they're addressing the drummer situation by hiring a woman (Anika Nilles) and say they'll be also hiring a keyboard player.

I could do that. Gissa job. Go on Ged. Come 'ead Lerxst. Gissa job.

Alan’s attitude to Doctor Who js made apparent in the Oast House episode where he gets trapped potholing and made me roar with laughter.

Whenever I hear Keir Starmer speak I think it’s Armando Iannucci without his Scots accent.

Accelerations run today demanded I ramp up from easy to heart-bursting-out-of-chest twice, for eleven, then six minutes. What to listen to? Easy, if you're an old Genesis fan. "The Musical Box" and "Can-Utility and the Coastliners" each build from acoustic 12-string folk to all-out pomp bombast.
A graph showing me accelerating twice while running and listening to early Genesis.

We were running a bit low on atoms in the house, so I thought I'd order some more.

I love this minimalist base. It’s very smooth and still and quiet and pleasing. Not Neptune’s grotto.

Just been to see “Urchin”. Unreservedly recommended. Film grips us harder when it reveals something about our own nature or situation. This did. There but for home and heart go I.

"You've seen them, haven't you? The rap singers. In the courtroom artist's sketches. The rap singers. You've seen them."
The world's best stand-up comedian, Stewart Lee, making one of his pithy observations. He looks smug and opinionated. A courtroom artist's depiction of Sean "Puffy" Combs, of Ken Dodd and the Diddymen.
