The human mind is not equipped to deal with the constant onslaught of realizing that there are far more ignorant, genuinely sponge-dumb people in the world than you ever thought possible.

Used to have that!

What does “no real use to anyone” even mean? It’s a movie not a cure for cancer

The original prompt is a bit vague so you can interpret it however you like. I took ‘defining’ to mean something that affected you personally

It's hard to help Americans left behind because so much of US identity is rooted in individualism. The average American conservative holds all three positions at once:

— Virtue signals about supporting US manufacturing
— Against raising the minimum wage
— Buys foreign imports because they're cheap
HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "I'm willing to pay more for quality products if they are made in America, by Americans, who are paid a decent income." The tweet shows Norman Rockwell's "Freedom of Speech" painting, which is often used to show the tweeter is expressing a brave opinion. HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "MINIMUM WAGE JOBS WERE NOT MEANT TO BE A CAREER. Why does no one understand this? Entry level jobs are STEPPING STONES to better jobs. No one wants to work towards that though." HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "Buy $5 gloves instead of $50 ones. Trust me." The tweet shows a box of "Gorilla Grip" gloves. The label on Gorilla Grip gloves show they're made in China.

I thought your own feed was the default. What is he talking about?

That’s the joke. It’s from Spinal Tap (their manager says it about Boston)

May depend on how you define what age childhood is. I lived through a lot of grim political stuff in the 70s and was aware of it but it mostly didn’t affect my life (I was a kid!) let alone define it

I read that Thiel ‘Antichrist’ stuff in The Guardian and it was complete gobbledygook

5 childhood defining events

- Thatcherism/privatisation (direct effect on my family)*
- British home computer boom
- HIV/AIDS epidemic
- Ethiopian famine/Band Aid
- Fall Of The Berlin Wall**

*Falklands War/Miners Strike are downstream from "Thatcher in general" I guess

Don’t understand people choosing political events as childhood defining. How exactly?
londonlee.bsky.social
No idea. It was on very late though and I remember thinking “Why are they hiding this fantastic show from everyone?”

Netflix needs to have a “I Have No Interest In Ever Watching This” option so I can stop it pushing Monster: The Ed Gein Story at me

Yeah I saw it mid-80s when I was at college on whatever ITV region Kent was

And I didn’t go for a pee once!
londonlee.bsky.social
It flies by. Didn’t feel long at all
londonlee.bsky.social
It’s a dull subplot and the show doesn’t need her. It’s just them showing off who they can get
londonlee.bsky.social
Not the point at all. Why isn’t the Dem establishment getting behind the younger candidates who will probably fire up the base more instead of a 77yo?

I have a loyalty card at my local off license which I have no problem filling up

Oct 12th 802701 - George Wells' time machine finally stops travelling forward. After saving Weena, and meeting the Eloi, he discovers the underground race known as Morlocks.

📽️📅 The Time Machine (1960)
3 Screenshots from the movie "The Time Machine" (1960): First, a close-up of the time machine's control panel with colorful dials and ornate detailing, indicating a time of October 12. Second, a scene with a man and a woman sitting on steps, engaged in a serious conversation with the subtitle "Twenty of your friends were watching you drown." Third, a group of Morlocks, creatures with pale skin and white hair, standing in a cave-like environment, exuding a menacing presence.
