Sister Jean was born the same month that the HMT Olympic, sister ship of Titanic, returned to the shipyard to be restored to passenger service following World War I.

The Pelham One Two Three sets were remarkably accurate.

“Working the A Train” (1981) took a behind-the-scenes look at the #NYCsubway system and showcased the work involved in running the city’s longest train line. At one time, the film played in the gallery of the New York State Museum, accompanying the exhibit of its R9 subway car #1801.

His “they say there’s no Devil, Jim…” monologue touches on something that was rarely explored on the series. Space is a mystery full of scary stuff. Otherwise it feels lived in.

Gradually rewatching the original “Star Trek.” Bouncing around some of the best episodes of the series. “The Doomsday Machine” is a classic because of the performance of Guest Star William Windom as the Captain of the doomed Starship Constellation.

Remembering a Sox Fest where Kenny said “if you want to us to have the number one farm system according to Baseball America (said in a tone of voice that implied a jerk off motion), I will demote all of our young players back to Charlotte.”

The White Sox version. The Hallmark of the Kenny Williams farm system was the sheer number of players who never made it out of Charlotte. Pour one out for CJ Retherford.
White Sox prospects who never amounted to much.

Harris ran a campaign that would have won in 2012. Different electorate, different tech, and very different motivating issues now and going forward.

Trump/MAGA are social media wizards. They know the algorithm and the emotional triggers of people who view the world through TikTok, Insta, etc. everything they did last fall was for the ‘gram and if you didn’t live in that world you didn’t see it.

History loves to talk about how Richard Nixon whiffed the 1960 debate because he looked old and tired next to the magnetic and handsome JFK. By 1968 Nixon was a master of TV and it established a run of GOP electoral dominance that didn’t end until the 90s.

The Harris campaign did the best they could with the cards they had. What gets lost in the mists of time is that the appeal of Obama 08 was twofold: he wasn’t Bush and he wasn’t the people who either lost to Bush or were steamrolled by him in 2002/2003.

I've written about it elsewhere but one of them is, for such an ambitious politician, essentially having no vision of her own. They had to go from 0-to-60 in two seconds, yes, but giving Obama's people the keys and re-running '08 ("Joy" / "Hope") killed her.

Steely Dan releases “Aja” 48 years ago today — their most commercially successful album, which now sits in the Grammy Hall of Fame.

It’s fun to watch Jay Graydon replicate his guitar solo from “Peg”. 🎸
