‘The reality (of Starmer’s approach to Trump) is that he is correct’. Those baying for a dust up with the US government might like to read this article. We (Europe) are nowhere near autonomy from the US in defence etc yet, and Ukraine is just too important to let go.
Why Trump is Starmer’s worst nightmare — ITV News
Sir Keir Starmer routinely describes his friendly relations with Donald Trump as a great asset to the UK.

Yes it’s about oil. But it’s also about ensuring that the world’s largest reserves continue to be sold in dollars. Maduro’s ‘mistake’ was indicating they would switch to the rival BRICS payment system backed by China. They couldn’t let that happen. The dollar needs oil more than oil needs the dollar
THIS WAS AN ACT OF WAR AND A VIOLATION OF INTERNATIONAL LAW.

But put that aside for a second…

What’s wild is that Marco Rubio isn’t even pretending anymore. He’s not hiding that the invasion of Venezuela is about oil.

This is going to end up a dumpster fire…

It's worth noting that multiple opinion polls and surveys over the past 5 years show that there is a very strong majority in the UK in support of mutual Freedom of Movement with the EU.

‘Mutual free movement’ for UK and EU citizens supported by 84% of Brits, in stunning new poll
Omnisis poll suggests opposition to free movement was based on lack of awareness and the UK government failing to enforce the rules

Farage wants to privatise the NHS, even Tice is now saying it:

"Instead of giving £26bn to the already bloated wasteful NHS, we proposed easing pressure on the health service by incentivising those who can afford to pay more to go independent with a tax break."

Can we assume US objectives means continuing to trade their crude oil in dollars?
President Donald Trump said the United States would temporarily “administer” Venezuela, including overseeing its oil and natural resources. He added that if interim leader Delcy Rodríguez follows U.S. objectives, American troops would not stay in the country permanently.

Just listened. It’s as we thought it’s more about the oil. What I didn’t realise is that US oil reserves were in such a bad state, the US needs oil and the petrodollar is under threat from China’s Yuen and Saudis Riyal. The US needs oil to be traded in dollars to save its economy from crashing.

The posts here around the Venezuela business being about protecting the dollar as the ‘oil currency’ are v persuasive. Even more so when you factor in that the US oligarchs fortunes are all based in dollars too. If the dollar fails, the US economy fails and bang go their ludicrous fortunes!

Stop the Tories and Reform
Your vote is your power. Use it tactically to get the Tories and Reform out, then influence your new MP and the next government.

A fair few news outlets putting the word ‘captures’ or ‘captured’ in inverted commas when covering the Maduro thing. I wonder if we have yet to under the full circumstances?
January 3, 2026 at 1:23 PM
Just a thought, but Obama had his briefing room photos when they captured Bin Laden and got the kudos for that. Trump is fiercely jealous of Obama and likely wants his own ‘moment’. Is that partly behind his capture of Maduro? As I say, just a thought…

Here’s one for the evangelical Christians who babble away talking nonsense (literally) on a Sunday in church. Another word for language is tongue (think ‘mother tongue’)So in Acts 2:4 the apostles miraculously found themselves able to speak different languages. They did not talk gibberish. Welcome!

I sometimes think there’s an element of preaching to the converted on here. However facts such as these below are useful to all of us if/when confronted by a Reform-leaning person.
🚨 “Can I tell you how many times in the last 45 years the European Court of Human Rights has ruled against the UK when it comes to deporting people from this country - only 13 times - in 45 years”

Please remember this in 2026 when Nigel Farage tells you we must leave the ECHR to control our borders
Human rights are universal - politicians may not always find them politically convenient but it shouldn’t fall to any government to say who those rights should & should not apply to. Because none of us then has rights, just privileges that can be taken away by those in power

Just watching Trump presser on Sky in the U.K. The guy is plainly as mad as a box of frogs and Netanyahu is just stood there looking confused/embarrased/ bemused alternately.

Had an operation a couple of weeks ago, in hospital 36 hours. EVERY SINGLE NURSE on the ward was not of white British origin. All were brilliant! There is a real danger to OUR NHS in this hostile environment now being engendered. If these guys n gals ‘go home’ the NHS will cease to function & quick!
