Russia’s metallurgical industry is facing its worst crisis since the 1990s. Due to plummeting demand, high interest rates, and collapsing output, steel plants are cutting staff and considering 4-day workweeks. Sanctions have wiped out a third of exports, and production is down over 10% year-on-year.

Follow @danneidle.bsky.social for detail but a 1-2% wealth tax is difficult. Easier to implement are higher capital gains and inheritance taxes plus a land value tax. And get rid of trusts.

I did notice the vast majority of comments, almost all in fact, from the BBC QT audience were refreshingly positive on issues of migration, integration and multiculturism. Well done Shrewsbury for demonstrating that we’re not all being gaslit by Reform ❤️

The #BBCQT audience proved what I keep saying, the 'problem' of migration is manufactured, the media hypes it up, the far-right hypes it up, social media bots hypes it up

Decent people recognise the benefits & necessity of immigration

Reform is being exposed for the grifters they are daily. The greens don’t have any policies that would work. 3 years is a very long time in politics

Tip of the week: you cannot believe the negativity about Labour reported in the Guardian or any of the right wing rags. Especially if no one is named as a source. It’s lies, lies and damned lies.

Our media have failed us.

Morning all.
Can I ask anyone's opinion on who is actually running the USA right now, because I can't believe it's Trump. The guy is old, wobbly & a bit confused, all those criticisms he levelled at Biden.
He's just somebody's puppet surely, with someone with the same ideals pulling the strings 🤔

If ultra rich people move abroad to avoid paying UK taxes surely they should not represent any party at any political level let alone continue in parliament or the Lords. When they obtain residency in an other country shouldn’t their passport be cancelled.

The PM.
What you see is what you get. Makes a refreshing change from the bravado, arrogance & self serving disregard of the last govt.
He's gone grey in our service & is undeniably getting on with the job, popular or not.
Maybe we should all focus on the person, not just the persona for a change

Lucy Powell would not accept a cabinet post as deputy Labour leader. Such a stance would make her the first Labour party deputy leader since George Brown (1960–70) on the backbenches.

It’s daft. The deputy leader needs to be in Cabinet, just as Rayner was.

All the people who argued that Palestine recognition had no impact whatsoever, might want to consider whether Israel’s diplomatic isolation was a factor, alongside the pressure from Trump. None of these things exists in a vacuum.
