Thanks for the reminder @janemunday.bsky.social. Every summer, I repost this article DROWNING DOES NOT LOOK LIKE DROWNING. To date, I know of FOUR kids who were saved after someone who'd clicked on the link learnt how to spot actual drowning. Take time to read and pass on.

Drowning Doesn’t Look Like Drowning
Drowning is not the violent, splashing call for help that most people expect.

Every journey is different but I haven’t found this to be much of a problem at all in zone 1/2. Obviously it’s poor outside the centre. I commute in to Waterloo, and you’re not allowed to park Lime bikes within a few hundred metres of the station now anyway and the price difference is massive.
It does! Santander cycles- the bikes formerly known as Boris bikes. £120 a year for unlimited rides. Reduces to £60 via cycle to work scheme. An extra £1.65 per ride if you choose an electric one. And their electric bikes are a much nicer to ride than Lime or Human Forest or the other clunkers.
Hey you with the pretty face,
Welcome to the human race.

Here’s an #fNIRS 🧠🔦 starterpack.

Let’s fill it!

British Smarties >> M&Ms and I will not be hearing counter arguments.
I think Maths in the U.K. needs improving and we should start with newspaper editors.
Alright #fNIRS folks - I need your help. Is there a genuinely robust functional activation paradigm that yields canonical HRFs in the adult prefrontal cortex (specifically frontal pole)? Arithmetic? Stroop? N-back? What's the go-to option?
It was great fun putting together this video for @UCLEngineering Disruptive Thinkers. Thanks to @gowerlabs @liamhywelcj @BirkbeckBabylab #fNIRS

#NYE hopes since 2016 - a bit of a running gag now. A🧵…
NYE2016: That was dire. Bowie & Prince are dead, Trump is pres. & the UK is backward. 2017 can’t be worse

NYE2017: Ok, Dad’s gone. 2017 can fuck right off

NYE2018: Eurghh. But we do have a baby and he slept though the fireworks

NYE2019: Another flaming bag of shit. 🤞for 2020!
Time for my annual NYE tweet!! Not had a great track record of bringing much luck so far, but hey-ho

What to say about ‘22? A dumpster fire for peace in Europe, and UK quality of life continues to descend

Maybe some light at the end of the tunnel for UK? 🙏 for 2023! #NYE2022
Interesting article from Kinder et al. Somewhat depressingly predictable that the stats on reporting of HbO vs HbO AND HbR have hardly changed since 2015. Gotta do better in 2023 people. #fNIRS...
As 2022 draws to a close, I feel like the below is a perfect encapsulation of the state of the UK. Those who govern us have, quite literally, let everything go to...
Just heard amazing news that @JulieUchitel passed her viva with flying colours today!!! Another 1st gen. @UCL_DOTHUB and @neoLAB_UK member is now a Dr! Congratulations Julie! #fNIRS #neuroscience #neonatology - this calls for more Ron Swanson..
Very pleased to be able to announce that @AddisonBilling, (an original @UCL_DOTHUB member supervised with @sophiescott) has passed her PhD viva today with zero corrections! Congratulations Dr B! Thanks to @EmilyDevNeuro @LLEmberson for examining. #fNIRS #neuroscience
✅ First demonstration of wearable HD-DOT for cot-side neuroimaging for newborns

✅ Functional connectivity analyses identify networks consistent with prior fMRI studies

✅ Opens new possibilities for functional neuroimaging of the newborn brain at the cot-side in the clinic
