In therapy I learned to allow the joyful things to coexist. They don’t invalidate the other emotions (depression and overwhelmed mostly for me) but spending some time on the joyful things is helpful. Both can be true. Spend a week identifying your no-asterisks joys and keep that knowledge. It helps.
