Dex is playing battlefield 6 and this game is demonic. The opening scene about NATO breaking up and the world being taken over by a private military is hilariously bleak, & the immediate sport of it feels so demented. I love how one of the lobby waiting songs is just an anxiety-inducing Shepard tone

A lot of the “failed” arts movements are still incredibly inspiring and produced some amazing works. Postmodernist get poo-poo’d in most architecture schools for their failures, and yet now they are inspiring a new generation.

Honestly it is very frustrating to me that the Retvrn people have made it difficult to talk about this without is just turning into “we need to create traditional (religious-infused) buildings again that espouse conservative values”

There is so many other possibilities for expression and meaning.

I am very familiar. I know they ultimately failed to deliver the vision they wanted and they were frustrated by it being a luxury market.

I still would champion people who would fight for alternatives to slop world, and take up the mantle of arguing for beauty’s value. We can be creative!

I think it is convenience when you break down the values that drive actions like value engineering and financialization. There is no greater value for our society that does not lose out to convenience and utility — I think stating that we need to value things like beauty is important.

I am trying to influence our design system team to listen to these conversations. They’re way too stuck in the mud on any form of decoration being universally bad for accessibility/usability — this does feel like a generational shift in design and I notice it seems divided by age how folks stand.

im glad this guy can express this point about beautiful aesthetics in design so much better than the Retvrn idiots. Very much vibe with this rn and similar feelings that emerged in design in the late 60s — expression and meaning need to come back to design.

I am LOVING Vonnegut’s Bluebeard so far and am already thinking what next I want to read from him. His humour through bleak themes is incredible and this book keeps making me laugh out loud. He would have been a great poster.

I don’t think anyone needs to defend their usage to whatever judgements they may glean from my feelings. Use tools as they’re effective for you to do a job. Just be aware that you might become dependent on technology, and I think if your goal in writing is to be expressive, this may limit that.

Comics are valid!! I love breaking up the pace with really heavy novels by switching to graphic novels/manga in between books.

I usually do like one heavy book and then one graphic novel/light fantasy novel.

They are so fun! Fiction books have largely replaced television for me at this point. I find they’re so much more rewarding than tv time, and they also help me unwind and sleep at a normal time at the end of the day.
