Psaki: "I know from experience that when the White House statement is any version of 'the president has confidence in,' or 'this cabinet member is a part of a great overall team,' ... it isn't typically a very good sign."

Some #NWSL soccer news across the wire: Portland Thorns coach Rob Gale will not be coming back next season, nor will First Assistant Coach Adam Day.

The club says that Assistant Coach Sarah Lowdon will serve as interim head coach.

Adrián González on the Hershfelt substitution:

"With Hal's situation, we were receiving information that she wanted to continue, that she was trying [to do so]... It is circumstances that we need to learn [from]. Obviously now we can say the sub was late."

Trinity Rodman on love from Spirit fans:

“I’ve always talked about how great the @spiritsquadron.bsky.social is, and DC as a whole, and we’re really bummed we couldn’t be having a parade now going back hopefully they’re still proud and we can try again next year.”

I’m biased, but best press corps in the league in DC.

Spirit fans are blessed with some terrific soccer minds covering their team, including Jason.

One of the best parts of showing up is just taking in all the expertise as everybody tries to unpack what’s happening during a game.
Of the 21 non-NWSL/Bay staff folks on the postgame zoom, there are 8 every-week Spirit media members, and at least 3 more are at PayPal Park.

Warms my heart tbh. Not to "back in my day" it but there was a point in early 2019 where I was the Fresh Prince empty room meme at the Plex.

An important point from inside: The CBA allows the league to raise the cap by as much as it sees fit.

My takeaways from championship weekend, including some insight from a chat USWNT legends Christen Press and Tobin Heath, all in my latest for @ms.now.

One soccer player's contract could change the trajectory of women's sports in the U.S.

Between some Skills Challenge drama and her loyalties to both Spirit and Gotham, I’m sure this is how it’s been for Kelley O’Hara all weekend.

You’ll have to tune into the Skills Challenge next Saturday to see it all, but it did have one returnee from last year:

From the @utahroyalsfc.com, it’s Kate Del Fava reprising her role as Keeper Kate!

Both Press and Heath are absolutely not fans of the Designated Player rule idea that MLS uses to allow teams to go over the cap for a handful of players per team.

Hearing their discussion on it on the RE-Cap show turned me against it for NWSL, and here’s the explainer they gave me:

Greetings from training in San Jose!

The team from DC talked about their good vibes in training and can confirm, it's safe to say Washington looks to be in good... Spirits! (I'll show myself out...)

For the Spirit crowd on here (and any DC/DMV folks), just a fantastic column this morning in the Post from Barry Svrluga.

Gabby Carle said it was devastating not to play in the semis after her hamstring injury and said, “I did everything I could to try.”

Ahead of Saturday, she described herself as “day-to-day,” which… aren’t we all?

Narumi Miura talked about how Spirit coach Adrián González has helped her improve by playing her at multiple positions.

“I have to change my mind, [based on] what position I play.”

Esme Morgan was next to her and added that Miura is such a smart player that you couldn’t tell that from outside.

Digging through the NWSL Media Day archives for the Spirit interviews and paging @risswillett.bsky.social and @838carlisle.bsky.social since Heather Stainbrook talked about her TikToks with Gift Monday and Kysha Sylla.

“They dragged me along,” she joked, before adding “I freaking love them.”

I was told they would fix the antisemitism.

I guess if you make it so that nothing counts as antisemitism, it stops existing and is fixed.

Anyway, college kids who want peace are the problem, right?
