The bad news: our utility here in #RhodeIsland has opted out of contract negotiations with the SouthCoast Wind project

The good news: #offshorewind will still save residents money this winter and in coming winters. /1

Despite SouthCoast Wind setback, offshore wind will lower power prices • Rhode Island Current
Rhode Island needs stronger leadership to meet the state’s climate targets, get off the roller coaster of high power prices caused by over-dependence on gas and hold Rhode Island Energy accountable.

This is a shout-out to the reporters who have been diligently covering the growth of and fight over #offshorewind in #NewEngland. First: Alex Kuffner of @providencejournal.bsky.social has done a great job of explaining the cost suppression effects of OSW./1

The #climatecrisis has a real cost in human lives. This cost is disproportionately borne by poor people and people of color. And more people die when governments, like the State of Texas, are in denial.

At this point, it's just random murder.
Texas has no regulations to protect workers from the state’s blistering heat and overturned city ordinances that required rest breaks. What does that mean for workers in one of the hottest parts of the country? @keertigopal.bsky.social and I spent months investigating for @insideclimatenews.org (1)

I've updated the @climateactionri.org #offshorewind tracker to include a new category (partially online) to account for Vineyard Wind's progress.

So here's where we are in the USA:

574 MW of OSW online (probably more)
5438 MW under construction (probably less) /1

Trump has done real damage to the US #offshorewind industry & progress is slowing. But it's important to put this in context. There is nearly 6 GW of offshore wind under construction and nearly 8 GW with all federal permits.

I've seen the steel in the water. This industry is far from dead.

People need to understand how this works: the #TrumpRegime likes to throw its weight around. Like other bullies, they're often bluffing.

Once Ørsted fought back legally, the Regime folded because *what they were doing was illegal* and the courts weren't having it.

Do. Not. Obey. In. Advance.
In light of the big news about how horrid Republicans are at their legal warfare here's some more related news.

The Trump administration has missed the deadline to appeal a federal judge’s decision ordering work to resume on the offshore Revolution Wind project.

You know what time it is? Time to stop buying from companies like Home Depot, Amazon, and Target that enable #MAGA #Fascism.

If not permanently, then at least for the next week.

So where else should you shop? /1

Political violence isn't an incidental part of the #MAGA Fascist project. It's a core feature.

As is gaslighting political opponents.
Thank you Mark Kelly for continuing to speak up.

Is Will Stancil deciding to downplay the widespread, widely documented #housingcrisis in America just to be contrarian? Or because the housing crisis isn't as bad in Minneapolis? Either way, I no longer follow this fool.

I was happy to donate to @jordanwood.bsky.social 's campaign when he announced his run against Susan Collins. I am happy to continue supporting him to replace Jared Golden in ME-2.

But for Christ's Sake: your campaign needs to quit it with the endless text messages asking for money. /1

Whenever Trump announces a trade deal wherein another country is going to buy a certain amount of American products, remember that these deals are unenforceable.

It's all a big con to delude the American public into thinking that he is not a grotesque failure.

I think it's a lot easier to think of #nuclear as "clean energy" if you are willing to ignore the people who mined the fuel, the communities they live in, and what happens after the mines close.

Turns out there are a lot of Native Americans in those two categories.

It's hard to not see the oil and gas industry as comic book villains. When their plans to cook our planet by burning more and more fossil fuels is (partially) foiled by cheaper renewables, they shift to drowning us in #plasticpollution.
Fossil fuels are the source material for most plastics + for the chemicals added to them. As firms lose their iron grip on energy production, indications are they're shifting to using oil + gas for plastic production, which has more than doubled since 2000 + looks set rise 40% in the next 10 years.

Great local news in #Providence, #RhodeIsland courtesy of the city's 2025 #Housing Progress Report. In fiscal year 2025, the city permitted *857* housing units, and provided occupancy certificates for another 453. These numbers show remarkable growth over the last 2 years.

So much for the "additionality" argument.

Electricity demand is rising. Starting in 2025, #solar + #wind may be rising faster. But with demand growing more on a linear model and solar + wind accelerating, that was inevitable.
